Lower Freioht Rales
On Berries Effectivo
Announcement of lower freight'
rates to eastern points on barrel
ed berries, effective this season,
was made yesterday by C. A. Gc r
ken, traveling freight agent for
the Great Northern railroad. The
new rate reduces the old charge
of -$.128 per hundred weight ta
$1.05 per hundred weight on a
30-ton car load lot. On shipments -of
25-ton carload shipments tl.o
old, rate will apply.
The new rates, according to Mr.
Gerken, are designed to encourage
berry raisers of the valley and ta
allow for competitive -eastern
prices with Michigan and Vir
ginia. They had Just renewed their
acquaintance after he had been
abroad for some years. "Why, Mi.n
Hawkins," he said, "you have
changed so I should hardly have
known you."
"For better, or worse?" sho
asked. '
"Oh," he repliedgallantly 'you
Lfeould only change for the bet-
ter!"
