. Dan C Freemari, the head
of the industrial, department
of th.e state chamber of com
merce, will be in" Salem next
Monday, to address, the local
chamber of commerce and to
stimulate! interest in the prize
offered for the" best booster
article to be published. The
Statesman is helping1 along
in that contest to tile oest of
its ability. It lias succeeded
in stirring up considerable inr
terest. . There is so much, to
say about Oregon , that, one
hardly knows ' where. to begin.
But the, industrial department
wants anything that will boost
'Oregon and that ought to be
comparatively easy. .., v
The 'two best letters ' re-
ceived this week are given ber
low.i The first one is local en
tirely. - It speaks .for itself
however: . -. ' 1
Editor Statesman:
My bit in boosting Oregon is
to, call attention to the great
revival just closed i It has
shown a ! united city and that
is one of the best booists that
any city can have. It is easy
enough to knock and also easy
enough for one denomination
to go off by itself and refuse1
to play in the back yard of any
other denomination.; Salem -will
present a's more "united s
front than ever and ' that
means a lot to our city s It
will bring Us to the front in:
all religious moral matters. It
will also raise Vt he tone . and
standard of our: wonderful
city. , Salem wIlMielthe moral
center of the state and as such
it will attrjactrthe', very ..best
people in the state, v i
I am signing my name at
the bottom but' prefer that
you do not use it. ; I .'want
your dollar, but 1 do not want
publicity on; this particular .
phase of the boosting game..

Editor Statesman: ;
I notice our cherries' are to
be shipped in refrigerators to
New York and . marketed
there. It is an) idea.that ought
to be fruitful... t .
We can grow ,. the largest
and best shinning cherry -in:
the world. This , js ,na idle!
jest. It must, be true when
New York buyers, will. travel
across the; continent ,, to I buy
our Bing and Lambeii cher--ries,-
ti ,
. In my travels from New
York to San Diego and thru
parts of .old Mexico, from New
Orleans! to 1 Seattle; British:
Columbia .and Alaska . and:
, parts of Europe, ;never have
I seen any fruit on the market
to : compare with Willamette
cherries for size.and. flavor.
.Once the. east gets a taste
of our, Oregon cherries there
Will be instantly established a
marketj The Oregon cherries
do their own boosting; They
meet the challenge of the best
tastes and carry themselves
in any- kind- of fruit society.
Let us rally around our cher
ries and help load , them into
these refrigerators. "
It is hardly necessary to
say that these cherries should
be purchased through busi
ness .agencies' of Salem. The
business, men are working
well together for the advance
ment of the city and can be
depended - upon Jo 'do their
