Tb-Moeeo.' 5-lX mm EMIIIEliT POET OF KM IS lE'll The death of Hazel Hall Sun day morning at dawn startled not from its unexpectedness, but from its clear pathos. Having been an invalid all her life, the last few weeks' illness came as no new thing. Hazel Hall virtually wrote her own epitaph; Her last poem was colncidently named "Slow Death," and epitomized in a brief lyric her long life of invalidism. Hazel Hall never walked. Yet her last book was named "Walk- ers," the "walkers" that passed by her window day in. day out as she watched, through the curtains which named her first book. A third volume will be published this September. ' Miss Hall wrote eagerly till the day of her death. Her life as a poet she lived in exactly eight years. Put the brevity of the time will not matter. Her verse will doubtless live. She had enviable standing with magazines of such literary quality as the New Re-' public. Poetry, A Magazine of Verse, The Literary Review, Con temporary Verse, and Current Opinion. She has appeared num bers of times in the leading an thologies and has won several dis tinctive poetry prizes. Hut now her prize is death. Miss Hall was 38 years of. age. Many will express surprise at tUe years," she-seemed always so child like to those who knew her. But the many of her friends have known her only in her verses, or, at moat, through the lovely por trait in color that hangs in thn Poets' corner at the J. K. Dill book store. When the picture was placed last May, apple blossoms filled to overflowing the vases about the room. Apple blossoms seem now only a part of the pic ture. Miss Hall Is survived by her mother and two sisters. MEN ONLY WILL f Continued from page 1.) more hellish will be the accusa lons of others who are lost and ho come to say, "You taught me is evii,,r of "You were a hypo rite or a liar, and it' spoiled mj ne claan-ilfevM -Dut what wi J flake heaven more heavenly wiU be the same kind of testimony, cl people who come up to say, "May. be you don't know me,, but it wa3 your example, ; your cleanness, your integrity that kept me straight when I was about to fall." ; Sin is the foundation cause cf every evil, every tear. In the world, said the speaker. It fills the insane asylums, the hospitals, the prisons and jails; it puts ac cursed, sickly little children into foundling asylums, marked with the mark of hell in their little bodies and doomed forever by the same' laws that would have made them beautiful and lovely If the laws had been obeyed. Science can take a drop of a man's blood and trace almost every sin for many generations back. In that one little drop of blood all tbe sins of all the fathers come down to the Innocent children yet un born. "Sin will crop out IT WILL!" Mrs. Demarest has seen. all this terrible crop of sin, in a thousand hospitals, in thousands of homes, prisons, wrecked lives where men and women have come to her for advice as to how its consequences may be averted. "There s no way, save through the cross of Christ who cleanses from sin, and who has power even to take away the consequences of sin," was her powerful plea to all her audience to come and start for the better, way of life. There was a most gratifying response to the appeal for converts, one of the best in the whole revival ser ies,' though the congregation was comparatively small. SECOND COMING SERMON THEME (Continued from paga 2) they would ruin him. He went down on the Titanic, deceived and ruined by the devil of spiritual ism. He had said to Mrs. Dema rest, "Little girl, you'd make a. wonderful medium!" She hail told him "The only medium I thall ever be is ftr the Hvirs God!" "There is only one name tbat Tan save the world the name of Jesus Christ. Democracy can no more save than autocracy; au tocracy has led to despotism, and Democracy leads to bolshevisni. Germany has been rampant vlth the gospel of force; England It 3wallowlng ratlonallaTi. But there is no salvation -In any of these philosophies. Because we have flirted with the world, the whole Christian world Is full cf spiritually bastard children. Whf n In the good old days the chIMn i Jump when father spoke, today it Is the parents that jump when t" children speak. We are I - : governed from below and r.ct fr above, and all this Is part cf i fulfillment of prophesy."
