FLOURING MILL.
CHANGES HANDS
For the. first time since it was
built by Chaa. Scott, the flour mill
at Scotts Mills has changed hands.
The mill was built about thirty
years ago and since that time has
been run by its first owners, until
it , was sold last November.

closure which is to harbor the
water-power wheel is under con
struction, now, one wall being al
ready in place.
A new kilowat dynamo is in
place waiting to be driven by the
water power of Butte Creek. When
the electric equipment is installed
the mill, which now has a capacity
of 50 barrels per day, will be elec
trified. The power plant at the
mill will also furnish light and
power for the town of Scotts Mills.
It is estimated that the electric
equipment now being built will
suffice for the town's use for ,a
number of years to come. Mr. Rich
is rushing the work so as to be
ready for business as soon as pos

da visited the Bryant Park auto
camp grounds' during the five
months from May to September
inclusive, cacording to the report
ofA . H. Gillett, caretaker, just
completed. The exact number was
10,368. Included in it are only
those who remained for at least
one night. Tourists who drove
into the park for the day or any
part of it were not required to
register.
There were 3182 cars registered
during the iftve months.

Process of Roasting Gives
Kick to Coffee and Cocoa
HAMBURG, Feb. 25 -U (Mail.)
German and Swiss scientists
who have been investigating the
effect of coffee, tea and j cocoa on
the human system have reached
the conclusion that coffee .and Co
coa are stimulating chiefly because
of the chemical changes brought
about by roasting. Experiments
were made upon both men and
dogs to discover the effects of the
three drinks which are commonly
used throughout the j civilized
world. These showed that tea was
less exhilarating than coffee and
cocoa.
Coffee from which thi caffeine
had been extracted also jwas test
ed, and men who had used this
beverage without knowing the
change made, in it underwent the
same stimulation enjoyed by those
drinking ordinary coffee. They
did not, however, have the in
crease in blood pressure which
came to those who drank, coffee
from which the caffeine had not
been extracted. '
It was the conclusion of the in
vestigators that the roasting ot
coffee and cocoa changes them in
such a manner that when used in
drinks they cause a secretion of
acidity in the stomach which has
a refreshing effect and increases
the power for mental effort.
At present there is but one
Latin country in armed rebellion
