Miss Nel Holsinger, field representative for the American Red Cross of Ore gon, is visiting the local chapter headauarters this week. Miss Holsinger comes to Albany for the purpose of giving advice and assistance to the board members and the executive secretary re gardins the year's work. She plans on giving special attention to the Junior Ited Cross work in the state. Albany schools, she says, are 100 per cent in the jun ior organization, save the high school, which she hopes to secure in the near future. The possibili ties of good work that can be done by the young people, with a minimum of effort on the part of the individual, makes it desirable to enroll as many as possible While the results accomplished by this body over the country are very gratifying, Miss Holsinger says, there still exists the need for a larger group, and for increased community interest. Hospitals disabled war veterans and disas ter centers are points of concen tration for the Junior Red Cross interest, and much aid has . been supplied to those in need. Lots of men who don't know it could save money if they would confer upon their wives the titl of Auditor of Disbursements and let them handle the job. f) lRWlltMC Aa) f)ME J9i6 -SHE VIXMT Cve TUffl Any M w. University of .Washington Outplays Willamette Score Is 48 to 15 The Willamette university Bear cats met defeat in a basketball game last night with the Univer sity of Washington Huskies on the home floor by the score of 48 to 15. Although the local team was clearly outplayed at no time were they so overwhelmed that the Huskies dared to slacken their pace. The Washington team is one of the best combinations that ever played on a local floor and their scheme of offense is exceedingly effective. The purple and gold defensive was the comparatively weak department of th'teir game. At frequent intervals Fasnacht, the Willamette star forward, would break completely away from cover of the Huskies' guard. When in the center of tljhe floor the Washington team had a ro tating pass that served to keep the ball from Willamette hands. During the first half Anderson, the Washington crack forward, made numerous points by taking his stand close to the basket and having his team mates dribble the ball to him. Jones and Hartley, the two car dinal and gold centers, were not outclassed at the tip-off and both of these men served as valuable cogs in the machine that netted Willamette its field goals. Battl ing against Frayne and Hesketh Patton and Erickson, the Willa mette guards, did very effective work. Coach Rathbun sent Logan into the fray at the first of the second half but soon took him out as further injury to his foot was feared. The first point of the game was made by the Washington team when uardner converted a foul. Anderson soon scored for the Huskies and Willamette immedi ately made Its first point on a free throw by Erickson. Hartley BY LOUIS Klf HAkl HUSKIES DEFEAT BEARCAT WHET 1, FVH PVIHCr- Ton. At the end of the first half ths score stood 31 to 12 and as the Bearcats left the floor it looked doubtful if they would keep the .; .pace throughout the game. : The - visiting team did not appear fa tigued and looked as tf they could go the entire period without rest, j Scoring by either side was cot an frequent in the second half as' it was in the first but the speed . of the fray did not diminish.'' Rathbun bent in -several subs in an attempt to gain a few more points before the final gun. Fas nacht, the fast Willamette for ward, was such a menace that Washington was forced to take special precaution to cover him. Anderson was placed to cover Fasnacht and did such a good job that neither man was given op-' port unity to score. On the whole last night's event speaks well for the future of the Bearcats' basketball season. They were able to score against the team that has been picked as the probable champion of ' Pacific coast and northwest conferences. In addition to this two of Willa mette's best men were eliminated from the game because of unfor- '" tunate Injuries. Logan's chance to play did not ray him to get " into a suit while Stetncipher did not appear on account of a broken bone in his foot. The next game on the floor of Willamette's new gym is with the ! , Washington Normal school of Cheney, Wash., Monday evening 1 at 7:30. This game promises to be more evenly matched and a. victory is looked for by local Bearcat supporters. The Washington team Is on an Oregon to-ir and will play OAOt Corvallis tonight. BASKETBALL i MOSCOW, Idaho. Feb. l.The University of Idaho won a fast, rough basketball game here to night against Gonzaga university . of Spokane. 2$ to 18. The teams are members ot the Northwest conference. The Vandals pulled the game out of the cials with a brilliant comeback in the closing mlutes, after ending the first half with Gonzaga in the lead IS to 13. Kelson, Idaho, and Huetter, Gon- zaja, were removed from the game on personal fouls. ' Penwell and FiUke were the Idaho stars , while Fitzgerald and Needles were the backbone of the Gonzaga machine. . WALLA WALLA, Wash-,, Feb. 1, Whitman's clever floor work and sensational shooting of long field baskets were responsible for the victory over Pacific university in a northwest conference game to night. The score at half time was 18-11, and the final result 30-23. Both teams had far more suc cess at long shooting than at close range. Time and again Whitman worked, the ball in close only to miss easy shots. Then when Pa cific threatened, the Missionaries dropped in sensational long shots. Fry, with seven field goals, and Yenney with, five, led the Whit man scoring. Blackman . made seven points for . Pacific. The teams meet again tomorrow. ' HI FROM ' MILLB, 50$ Broadway, Krw It I
