That the hills surrounding Silver" ton, and perhaps more especially the Waldo hills, will some day be- come a nut center is a factTfast being realized by the hill farmers. Already a great number hav6 planted small acreages of filbert and walnut trees. J. J. Doerfler is perhaps doing the Wost exten sive nut farming at the present time. Last year he planted six acres evenly divided between wal nuts and filberts . To this he add ed this year 100 more walnut trees'. Mr. Doerfler says that with in four or five years he expects to have a nut acreage somewhere close to 40 acres. Hayward. tor over 20 years track coach and trainer for the University of Oegon, has been invited . to become 1 a member of the coaching staff for the United States Olympic team, he announced today. The invitation comes from William C. Prout, president of the American Athletic union, and Mr. Hayward has accepted, pending approval by the international Olympic committee. Should this approval be given, Hawyard will leave with the American team on June 17'for Paris. In 1912 Hayward accompanied the team to Stockholm, and in 1920 to Antwerp. In 1920 he had charge of all athletics from the United States west of the Missis sippi river.
