Ed and Henry Hornschuch are now cut ting Oregon alder for the Portland market on. the latter's place near Hebo and transporting the wood in required lengths to the ' above city by jrucks. It is believed that they are getting from s 3d to Sao per thousand board feet delivered. The mill is about three and one- half miles above Hebo. The wood is valuable for furni ture manufacturing purposes, and is said to so closely resemble ma hogany when made up 1 that it takes an expert to note the differ ence, it is said that eastern firms are awake to the possibilities of this4 wood, and throw up their hands in surprise when they learn that alder is burned , up in. slash ings, or sold for fuel purposes.
