"1 "It costs more to sell our man ufactured and agricultural prod nets than it does to produce them,' so declared the American Federa tlon of Labor in session in Port land last month.! "Thirty-three people produce and 19 make a livelihood off of what they pro duce. Nineteen people make prof- Its getting to consumers, what 83 produce. When producers and consumers will effectively cooper ate, this middle army can be very largely done away, with, i "While many are discouraged over the slow progress of cooper ation in Oregon, yet the move ment is making steady headway," says the state market agent. He will soon publish a list of the or ganizations in this state that are working out plans of Joint sell ing.'5" : ::.; ' ;'fi . j "; ' The larger growers over the state, as. well as most of the ship pers, are . heartily I sustaining the new , potato grading and Inspec tion law. They declare that it will give Oregon a big power in outside markets and at the same time will protect the grower and shipper In honest packs. And they state that it will take the home market away, from Washington, which has long had a monopoly of Portland markets.- Manager Dixon of the state co operative egg . association, states that poultry raisers of the state are responding heartily to the new five-year .contract. under which 250,600 .hens must be signed up before the contracts are : opera tive. The new contract has an annual release period. The state association Is rapidly growing in strength and now ' determines the market prices of tbe state. The organization during the past year has handled an Immense business in a fully satisfactory manner to the members. A representative of cooperative organizations of Wisconsin was a recent caller on the state market agent for information on the work in Oregon. r He' etated that the farmers of Wisconsin are grasp ing for any Information or plan under which they can eliminate or reduce the enormous middle prof its and selling expenses, and turn these back for the benefits of the cooperators. He- stated that one of the hardest obstacles to over come for cooperation between pro ducer and consumer was the ap parent indifference on the part of the, consumers; that they were loud in protest against high re tail prices, . but seemingly indif ferent to movements to organize with the farmers to 'shorten the middle route of the products. The department of agriculture announces that It takes 40 , acres of potatoes,' normal yield, to sup ply 1000 people; 50 acres of fruit and 30 acres of vegetables. The state market agent states that while there is a large acre; age of potatoes In the Willamette valley and the yield is very f good as to size . and quality, yot the Quantity yield is considerably; be low the estimates. The harvesting Is now well along and shipping is in full force. Nearly all the po tato inspectors of the Btate : are busy on inspections, and the grow ers are rapidly learning the grad ing rules'. There Is agitation for cooper ative organizations to handle many different products in many different localities of the state and expect the movement to go ahead far more rapidly next rear. It has been the experience in other etates that the movements that go ahead the fastest are chose that start locally in different counties and later on merge into largor or ganizations. It Is not so great aiv undertaking as a state-wide organ i NEW CORPORATIONS I The following articles of incor poration were filed yesterday with the state corporation department: Second Cunojjar Accounting ser vice. Portland; incorporators; Cuno R. Bryant, Marguerite ' R. Bryant, Gerald B. Bashaw; capi talization, $1000. Independent Truck Line, Inc., Medford; incorporators, H. W." Clark. J. E. Whltlatch. Frank De Souza; capitalization 15000. They have soup stations in Ger many because she Is the soup. Neither the most powerful powder nor the ' , ' most powerful gasoline detonates j-- ' " " ' There are two kinds of gasoline just as there are two , ! kinds of powder. One detonatesexplodes with a single ! crash. - I j It pounds the piston down with a sledge hammer blow. Having a tendency to explode prematurely, it limits j ' compression, decreasing power and efficiency. It often ;. ' causes "knocking" on hills. . : T ! ! And the crashing blows, repeated, increase vibration which means more wear and tear, i ' Detonating gasoline and dynamite are similar in that both detonate. ..... Even,' Sustained Impulses i" . . . '1 1 1 ' ' . I ' Union Gasoline is different. Like the smokeless powder, used in all big guns, it does not detonate. Its explosions are progressive and prolonged. They thrtst the piston down with a steady, sustained impulse, just as the big gun thrusts out the projectile. t These explosions permit higher compression, for com pression is limited by the tendency of a gasoline to de tonate, as all authorities know. You enjoy more power and efficiency from a gasoline like this. -' . m v f New Speed This additional smoother power in your motor means - a new "lift" on hills, new speed on the level and more snap in the pickup. ,s v v These steady, sustained impulses decrease vibration, so save wear and tear. Detonating powder would be the ruination of big guns. v. . j And this increased, all-'round efficiency means greater fuel economy. - .; ' M p. Thus Union Non-Detonating Gasoline is the fuel that gives you better, service from your motor in several im portant ways.? Union is always uniformT It doesn't disintegrate, thus doesn't deteriorate in storage. You get all the power when you want it that is put into it at the Union plants.
