know Fred J. Smith; He was at
one time, a few years ago, a mem
ber of the city council. He ie now
at Seal Beach, Cal., where he has
charge of the amusement depart
ment of the Bay Side Land com
pany, who founded the town. Seal
Beach is next to Long Beach. Mr.
Smith is on his vacation, and will
be here for a .few days, and will
be in Salem again after; a trip to
Vancouver, B. C, and Seattle. Mr.
Smith jwas' for a long time in the
office ot;R. Pf Boise, where he
studied .law and, was admitted to
the bar. He says things are boom
ing In southern I California. :
