' The highway commission an
nounces the award of a contract
for the construction, of the bridge
on the Columbia River highway

between Astoria and - Seaside to
the Pacific Bridge company of
Portland at a contract price of
approximately $170,000.
In -addition to the structure the
embankment, paving-1 and - other
items will bring the total cost
of the improvement to the sum
of $250,000, jot "which Clateop

tent of $20,000 on the structure
and $20,000 on the embankment.
This bridge consists of a 100
foot single leaf Bascule span on
concrete pleri with . about 700
lineal feet of pile trestle approach.
The embankment is approximately
1000 feet In length. -In the struc
ture there are about " 2 0 0 0 cubic
yards of confcrete, 370 pounds of
structural steel. 34.000 lineal feet
of piling,; as Veil as at consider
able amount of electrical equip
ment and machinery required for
the operation of the lift' span.
