Donat. who spun weird tales of
the native lore of the South Sea
islands for his .friend, Robert
Louis Stevenson, its dead here. He
was well advanced in years, but
his exact age was unknown.
Donat was temporarily in charge
of the' government administration
of the Paumotu Islands when Stev
enson arrived at Fakarava.i and
he and the famous author became
close, life-long friends' Steven
son would1 sit by the "hour and
listen to the tales ' of ghosts as
