Europe; it looks as if Old Man
Debacle wag getting ready to blow
out the gas and go to bed.
Today is Passion Sunday and
next Sunday Palm Sunday. The
approach of the Easter season is
reflected in the different' churebes
most of which aro planning spe
cial musical programs for that
occasion. Special services will be
held during the week preceding
Easter in one of .-the down town
halls under tbo direction of the
Ministerial association.
A special series of sermons on
the general theme, "Ascent to
Easter" will be begun today by
Revi Blaine E. Kirkpatrick, at the
First Methodist church.
The Presbyterian church will
hold a series of pre-Easter prayer
meetings during the coming, week
at the homes of members.
Suecial musical programs are
beinsr orenared by the different
churches and the second annual
music week in Salem will begin
on Easter Sunday. The first day
will be given over almost entirely
to church5 music.
The sermon today at the Uni
tarian ciurch will be "Jesus,
Mary and Joseph." Mrs. Fere-
shetian will sing special numbers
including an aria from the ora
torio. Messiah. "He Was De
spised." - - ' ,
Sermon . topics at the First
Christian church will be "Making
Shipwreck of Faith" and in the
evening "The Purpose and Mo-

derup is the evangelist in charge
and meetings are held every night
during the week except Monday.
The old St. Paul's Episcopal
Church, loccupied since 1854, will
be bidden a farewell by the con
gregation today and next Sunday,
PPalm Sunday, will see servies
conducted in the new church

tion for several months.
