I sna turned to me wun a cour

was not misled by the ready aid
she had- given me. In realty,
she was utterly Indifferent to any

her breeding .prevented her from
doing anything else save help 'me
In every- way possible.
Little Mrs. Durkre pursed her

"I can't think it was the work

"I agree with Edith." Lillian
returned Quietly. "At first f
thought It was the work of pro

attention to one or two. things
which convinced me she was on
the right track. And all my later
Investigations only confirmed her
opinion. No. I think that is the
only solution.'. '
I Over Edith's "face wept a

Lillian's purpose was achieved.
.There would be no el'ghtot hint

she assented with the ready sym

I obeyed her,'. and when I had

PRICES GO DIM
i CHICAGO, Feb. ' 6. Likelihood
of peace between ! Great' Britain
and Turkey carried prices down
ward in the grain markets today.
Wheat closed heavy, half to lHc
net lower, with, May $1.18 to
$1.184, and', July, $1.13? to
$1.13. Corn lost half a cent
to 1H, and oats to c. In
provisions . the outcome ranged
from 2 cents decline to 12 cents
advance. "
Wheat showed some weakness
at the outset, but it. was only to
ward the end of the day that" the
market underwent a decided fall.
The difference was that during
the earlier dealings many traders
feemed to be in : doubt as to
whether peace talk had any sub
stantial basis. Later dispatches
received here, however, were defi
nite enough to bring about gene
ral selling and to leave the mar
ket with but little support.
Liberal enlargement of the
United States visible supply, to-
; gether with continued absence of
(next export-business acted as fur-

market Besides, snow , was fall
ing over much of the winter wheat
belt,- and ..althougb' a return of
cold weather was looked - for, the
temperatures were expected to be
less severe than was recently the
caset? On ther"other' hand, prim
ary receipt today r were smaller
