progress was made by today's
stock market whick seemed to be
marking time pending, more defi
nite developments In the domestic
business 'and foreign political and
economic Fituations. Prices gen
erally ruled within narrow and
irregular limits with the profes
sionals doing most. of the trading
and the so-called outsiders show
ing no disposition to either buy
or selbat present prices.
Some selling took place at the
start in response to another break
in he Durant motors and related
i.'-sues, but it was confined princi
pally to motors, chemicals and
a few specialties. Continued
heaviness of continental exchange,
and a higher renewal rate for call
money influenced -bearish senti
ment, but the "shorts" brought
out comparatively little stock and
sufficient buying support was
forthcoming . to steady the list.
Trading was dull on the rally.
There were few conspicuous
strong spots in the industrial and
specialty list.
Announcement of another in
crease of 25 cents a barrel In
Pennsylvania crude prices and an
increase of 10 cents a barrel in
the price of bunker fuel oil In
New York harbor were the prin
sipal items of trade news.
Trade in rails was sluggish, a
few dividend paying issues show
ing rigns of heaviness.
Call money opened at 4 per
cent and then advanced to 5.
Time money rates were unchang
ed at 4 bid and 4 asked with
a few long term loans being ar
ranged at the higher figure and
some shorter maturities Teported
at 4 per cent. Interior institu
tions are making more- inquiries
