S "b S "Th re is born to you this da in tr.fc city of David, a Saviour, who is Christ the Lord." b The generals and colonels and captains and buck privates in the Willamette university campaign all deserve turkey, if they like turkey, today and tomorrow. They are the fellows who turned the tide and brought victory at the last minute of the last hour. S ". There is a farmer friend of the Bits for Breakfast man who says if this spring weather keeps up he is going to commence planting potatoes. ". j There will he other real estate transfers in and around Salem thousands of them. The tide is going to run strong towards Salem, built on Gibraltar founda tions that are certain to brat up 100,000 pdople one of these days and not so very long in the fu ture. V S Acting Governor Ritner has been serving without pay. The salary goes to Governor Olcott. It will be the same with Acting Gov ernor Bean. Governor Ritner's short term will go down in the annals as a pardoning ternr; But the Bits for Breakfast man is much inclined to think he has not abused his authority in this re spect. Certainly not in the case of old man Campbell, pardoned yesterday, agad 72, whose old wife has been almost destitute in Salem, living here to be near her husband. The newspaper report er who covered the case for the Oregonian at the trial at Rose burg, says the old man ought to have killed the neighbor he did kill two or three years before if one believed any man should ever kill another. Any way, Campbell is not of the class of confirmed criminals if there is such a class; and perhaps there a small one, mostly from edu cation or latck of education and environment. There Is no such thing as a natural born criminal, 13th Christmas that Mr. Bligh has done this service for the pris oners.
