Lack ot speculation rather than any ag- gresive selling had a depressing effect on the wheat market to day and all gains averaged low er, ajUer higher prices at the start. At the finish wheat was down 1-8 to 7-8 with May 1.18 1-4 to 3-8 and July 1-07 5-8 to 3-4. Corn was off 3-4 to 7-8 and provisions were 7 to 17 cents lower. Wheat prices showed consid erable strength at the opening, but weakness developed quickly. Liverpool quotations were higher despite an earlier close on this side of the Atlantic yesterday and this combined with further ULfavorbla private cables from Argentine caused soma buying at the start, which tended to lift values. Commission houses sold a little wheat at the top Cor ac count of western longs and when soma traders- noted the poor buying power, they sold wheat and forced a break. Trade as a whole was of the usual week end and evening up character. Trkde in corn and oata was uninteresting, the markets show ing a rather heavy undertone with more or leas local pressure on the deferred deliveries. Provisions were easier In line with hogs and grains and on an easing In the price of cash lard. I PRATUM NEWS I PRATCM, Dec. 1. Rev, Clay ton Judy preached at the Men nonlte church, here yesterday, where a union Thanksgiving meeting was hetJ by the Pratum Mennonlte, Pratum Methodist Episcopal and Willard churches. The basket social which was held at the achoolhouse last Fri day evening was a success in every way. The program was well rendered. The baskets, which were numerous, were sold by Robert Jam. The total amount was $45.80. During the' past few days while the teachers were attend ing the institute and the young sters enjoying tfjeir vacation the men of the community got busy improving the schoolhouse. The primary room has a new floor, part of the roof has been reshingled and 'new paper and paint are on the program. Mr. and Mrs. George Kleen spent Thanksgiving day with re latives near Silverton. A. W. Powell is now complet ing his modern , water system which has been Under construc tion for some time.
