RALLY IS STAGED
Covering by Shorts Cause
of Lively Sensation in
Chicago Yesterday
Chicago, Nov. 13. Coverinr by
shorts late in the session brought
about a rally in the wheat mar
ket after it had held within rela
tively narrow limits, but had gen
erally averaged higher because of
the strength in Winnipeg and
higher quotations in Liverpool.
The. close was unchanged to 1 1-4
higher with. December 116 1-4 to
1.16 3-8 and May 1.15 to 1.15 1-8.
Corn was 1-8 lower to 1-4 higher,
oats a shade off to a like advance
and provisions unchanged to 7
cents up.
The action of the wheat mar
ket was erratic. Pressure to sell
was felt on all of the bulges, and
there was a strong belief in the
bear side, but the trade waa in
clined to exercise caution and sell
only on the bulges. The Turkish
situation was regarded as unfav
orable, and tended t o lend some
uneasiness causing restriction of
bearish operations. There always
was enough wheat to check the
rallies, despite support which
came mostly from local longs.
Most of the purchases, however,
were against sale9 made in Win
nipeg. For the first time In more
than a month there was mention
of hedging pressure and while
this selling was not big, it was
large enough to attract attention.
It emphasized the big receipts of
1,952,000 bushels In the vi9ible
supply also waa & reminder of in
creased receipts and decreasing
demand. . Whether over the win
ter wheat belt was avorable and
soil - conditions were reported
greatly improved by the rain and
snows of Sunday and today. ?
Corn and oats showed a rather
heavy undertone, averaging lower
early on local pressure but rally
lng later on ehort -covering. No
material change was noted In cash
premiums; and the demand for the
actual grain was fairly good
Some etales were made to export
ers, although there war no fresh
inquiry of consequence from
abroad, according to seaboard re
ports.
Buying of lard credited to New
York, coupled with an advance In
lard In Liverpool, tended to off
set a decline in bogs here and
made a higher range in provis
ions.

REVELATIONS OF A WIFE
CHAPTER ,160
The Decision Madge Made.
"So you dared." ..
Hugh Grantland'a tone was icy
as he towered above the man
whom I knew only as "Tim."
He had given me only the brief
est of nods when he had appeared
so abruptly in the doorway of Bet
ty Kane's kitchen, and there crept
over me the snubbed-llttle-slrl
feeling which I . often experience
when the officer is intent upon
some business. Major Grantland
has more than most men what
Dicky terms a "single track mind.
and I saw that in this Instance
the track was a particularly nar-
now gauge one.
Tim threw . me a oeseechlng
glance.
"Twasn't no harm, major he
said, shrinking from the tall off!

outstretched towards his eoat col

"That makes no difference.
The hand was tightened en the
coat collar now. You had your
orders from tne. You have chosen
to violate them. Now you will
take' the consequence. Come
along." '-: S :-: v v "; .':
For a panic-stricken second or
two I thought Major Grantland
meant to Inflict physical punish
ment upon the man before my
eyes. Then I saw that hev was
simply Impelling him towards the
door, and I guessed that the des
tination of the luckless taxi driver
was the nearest jail. I had sur
mlsed before that the secret of
Hugh Grantland'a hold over the
man was the knowledge be prob
ably possessed of Tim's peccadil
loes. Curiously enough. In the ac-
taal consummation of the thing he
had feared. Tim. appeared to lose
