Eleanor Houk, of the Blackfoot tribe is the first Indian girl to attend the ' University of Oregon. Her home is in Browning, Mont., a small town situated a few miles from Glacier national park. She received her grammar school work and a part of her high school training; at Carlisle, Pa., the largest Indian school in the United States, which was abol ished during the war by the gov ernment. Coming to Oregon In 1918, she entered the Salem high school, and graduated in 1920 with high honors. The following year she taught in the lower grades at the Salem Indian school.
