Dibble, di rector of licenses at Olympia from the state penitentiary, it was an nounced today by prison officials. A ump bonus of ?20, 000 . was dis tributed to the members of the St. Louis Browns shortly before the end of the "season by Phillip de Catsby Ball, president of the club, as a reward for the team's best performance in twenty years, it was learned tonight. President Ball is understood to have given his players a bonus of $5,000 during the middle of the season, when they forged into the American league lead, making a total of $25,000 presented in bon uses by the present owners. DIED Gasoline sales In Oregon dur ing the month of September show ed an increase of. about 21 per; cent over those of me same month in 1921, says a statement made yesterday by Sam A. Kosef. sec retary of state. The decWne as compared with August, 1922. was only about 4 12 per cent. Dis tillate sales aggregating 210.229 gallons showed a decline of 1?.2.- 4 31.5 gallons from the total ofL the previous month. The tax paid to thQ state on the September pales amounts to $132,149.55. Of this sum $65. 549.03 was produced by the law of 1919 which provides for a rate of 1 cent per gallon on gasoline and one-ihalf cent per gallon on distillate. The additional tax of 1921 providing for a uniform rate of 1 cent a gallon on all kinds of motor vehicle fuels, returned the sum of $66,600.52. Up to the present time the op eration of the motor . vehicle fuels tax laws has brought to the state treasury the total sum of $2,702,259.17.
