Wheat in Chicago Are

for the season were registered to
day by wheat, corn and oats, the
gains, were more than wiped out
later by heavy selling to realize
profits. Wheat closed unsettled,
7-8 to 1 cents net lower, with
December 1.13 to 1.13 7-8f.hd
May 1.12 to 1.12 5-8. Corn lost
1 to 1 and oats 7-8 to 1!
i 5-8. , in provisions the oiitcome
varied from Unchanged figures to
22 higher. ; ,
Rapid changes characterized
the trade in wheat from start to
finish, with commission houses
active on both, sides of the mar
ket. The final downturn of val
ues appeared, to be due to belief
on ;the part of many holders that
a reaction was natural on account
of the sharp advances of late. '
It was a case of nip and tuck
In the wheat pit until the last
hour. Then sellers attained a
majority with some notice being
taken of gossip that a sar short
age was easing up. a little and
that ' a consequent reduction of
premiums at the seaboard! might
be looked for. On the other hand,
bulla contended at the finish that
realizing has cleaned out much
weakly held wheat and that the
market was in a healthier posi
tion as a result.
Estimates that the world short
age of corn this season would to
tal 500,000,000 bushels tended
to give Independent strength to
corn and oats. May and July corn
reached 70 Vic a bushel but then
holders began to unload on a big
scale and corn and oats receded
with wheat.

with hogs and as a result bf the
semi-monthly statement of ! ware
house stocks here.

ing, based on the theory that the
market had been overbought,
caused, an almost general j reces
sion of prices today on the stock
market. -
Trading was largely, profes
sional. Mexican Petroleum con
tinued to be a speculative favorite
moving within a radius 6f 14
points and closing at a net loss of

was strong extending its gain to

Steels were among tile heaviest
of the standard shares. The

lic was influenced by the publi
cation of the report for the quar
ter ending September 30 which
showed a deficit of $138,676 aft
er taxes and . charges, as com
pared with a profit of $86,382 in
the preceding quarter. United
States Steel common closed at
108 1-4 off and Crucible was

Rails again lagged behind the
rest of the list, but a brief rally
took place in Northern Pacifk,
which touched 89.
Equipments also yielded in the
general reaction, Baldwin' falling
back to 140, after having estab
lished a new high for the year at
142 3-4. All the motors ; were
weak. Rubber stocks Improved
fractionally on announcement ot
higher prices for crude product.
Total sales were 1,236,000
shares.
Call money held firm at five
per cent throughout the session.
