Lumber Mill Production 8 Per Cent Over Normal One hundred and . twenty-two mills reporting to West , Caaat Lumbermen's association for the week ending September 1C; manu factured 89,374,992 feet of lum ber; sold 70,838,097 feet; ship ped 76,365,196 feet. Production ior reporting mills was 8 per cent above normal New business 21 per cent below pro duction. Shipments were 8 per cent above new (business. Thirty-n;me per cent of all new business taken during the week was for future water delivery. This amounted to 27,278,097 feet, of which 18.6S9.392 feet was for domestic cargo delivery, and 8, f88,705 feet for overseas ship ment. New (business for delivery by rail amounted to 1452 cars. Thirty-eight per cent of the week's lumber shipments moved by water. This amounted to 29, 205,196 feet, of which 21.553, 592 feet moved coastwise and in tercoastal, and 7,651,604 feet ex port. Rail shipments amounted to 1572 cars. Unfilled domestic cargo orders total 105,033.448 feet. Unfilled export orders 63,245,029 feet. Un filled rail trade orders 6853 cars. There are 15 active members In the pig club, and six In a Jersey calf fc ub. Hoiner Bray, 16, of near Salem, won the cap in the Marion county Judging team at .the state, fair .last year, and also at the livestock ex position in Portland. He is on the team again thiayear. Last year he went in for Poland China hogs but this year he has switched to .Chester Whites, and M expected to make a Very creditable show ing. II. Baillie, rural school supervisor of Marion county. . Personal Attention Given Mr. Baillie keeps in close teuch with the various 'local leaders throughout the coumy and has teen bending every effort to make a good showing at the forthcom ing state fair. Stay ton will be represented by sewing, poultry, cooking, pig and canning clubs. North Howell has five stand ard clubs. District 127 has a standard club, which held meet ings all summer, with any mem ber black-balled who did not show active interest. The Aums vil e club is another live club, doing . fine work. Altogether there are 33 standard clubs iu Marlon county, besides many in dividuals who are doing excellent work, although they are in places too remote to have the aid of fel low workers and club leaders. Survey Made Recently A recent ' survey of the activi ties of the boys and gir a in Polk county showed eqnal interest, with all club .members making good progress in the various pro jects, . This county's exhibit at the state fair will be except ionally large this year, and will be of broader scope. Many sew ing clubs have been organized, with embers meeting at .the homes during the summer months. All are under .the suprvision of com petent leaders. Three young boys, Alfred, Geo. and Woodrow Wilson, who ""live near Sheridan, are entering ener getically into the raising of ppta toes and gardening.
