Kaiswer, track scale inspector of the public service commission, in conjunction with W. A. Dalziel, deputy state sealer of weights and measures. The Crossings' Eliminated The public service commission has issued an order eliminating three grade crossings on the Shan iko branch of the Oregon-Wash ington Railroad & Navigation company and authorizing the con struction cf one new crossing. The elimination was made pos sible by the relocation of th highway between Moro and De Moss. The new crossing is on the Monkland county road. Picnic Postponed Because" of the death of Mrs. L, M. Gilbert, the First Presbyterian Women's Missionary society has postponed its picnic. It was to have been held this afternoon at the fair grounds. Gilbert, 1395 South High street, died at her home yes terday following an illness of sev eral weeks durat'on. She is sur vived by her widower, L. M. Gil bert, former superintendent of the boys' training school, a son. Malcolm L. Gilbert of Portland. "and three daughters. Margery. Manr and Mildred, all ot Salem and her mother, Mrs. Margery Rorers. also, of Salem. Mrs. Josephine M. Gilbert was born at Pleasant Hill. Ohio. 53 years ago and came to Oregon in 1898. Deportation Hearings Held-- .- Deportation hearings involving an inmate of the Oregon State Hospital for Insane, Leopold Kas oer. and two inmates of the peni tentiary, G. Ramon, and ? Tony Campa, were heard yesterday by R. P. Bonham, immigration in spector for Oregon. Gamon,' Mex ican, was sentenced before he had been in the United States five years-and since he entered? with out inspection and can neither read nor write in any language. he can be deported on any of three charges. Kasper is a na turalized Canadian while Campa's caso is complicated through the fact that he served with the Amer ican forces in Italy, returning to the United States In 1919. It is said he may be able to claim ex emption on the plea that the last time he entered the United States, which was less than five years ago, he was with the American army.
