""Reports were ' recelTed from
' practically districts ot? the first
r and second elass." says the re-
.' port. : "In these teachers have al
ready been elected aqd salaries
-determined. - A large number of
school dlstrtdjts hare not hired
teachers for the ensuing year
hence, , only approximate reports
could be made at this time."
Relative to the general tnore-
ment to decrease school expendi
tures the report obserres that "In
- the larger cities, this decrease' is
, being affected by the curtailment
. or building programs, the eumin
: atlon of curtailment of special de
partments of work, or by the sus
pension, of, payments -on indebted
' ness. " In bo" section of the-state
is there a pronounced movement
to lower teachers" salaries.". V

Some High Pay Cut ?
The reports show that where
sajaries have been decreased it
has been in cases demanding an
unusual salary last year, or' where
living expenses has materially de
creased. Salaries have increased
in eases where districts wish to
retain a good teacher, or. where
better, trained, more efficient
teacher is desired." - .
Therefore the, logical conclus
ion is that aalarls in districts of
the third class wilt remain approx
imately the same as last year.
