Erixon, chairman of the committee appointed by the Commercial club some time ago to look to extending Capitol stieet and the question of securing bet ter conditions as to the railroad crossing, has come to the conclu sion that an under-cut roan, pas? ing under the Southern Pacific track is much to be preferred' to a viaduct. "After looking into both an nn-der-cut and a viaduct as a means of solving the railroad crossing question, I am emphatically in fa vor of the under-cut," Mr. Erixon said. "I find the railroad track is already five feet above the level of the highway and in passing nn der the. track we would have to make only a clearance-of from 15 to 17 feet. This would not e quires a rery deep cat. : : "I believe a sewer "could be constructed - at" a cost" of '$ 1 4010 properly to drain an under-cut road. This sewer could be made ,12 inches in diameter and this Would serve all purposes to guafd against all possible stoppage of drainage.
