One pen was fed dry mash consisting of 20 pounds each of corn meal, ground oats, bran, shorts and meat wraps In addition to the grain ration; the second pen was fed the same mash, with the exception of the meat scrap, in addition to the grain, and had buttermilk available at all times, while the third pen received noth ing but buttermilk in addition to the grain. Results obtaiued up to August showed that the first pen. whch received the grain feed and com plete mash, produced 1.663 egs from November 1. The secoud pen, which received the mash minus the meat scrap In addition to the grain and buttermilk, pro duced 2,060 eggs from November i wnue me tnia pen, vrnicn re ceived the grain and buttermilk. produced 2,390 eggs from Novem ber 1 or 728 more than the first pen and 330 mora then the second rcn. Buttermilk fed to thi hens in the second and third pens was available at all times. The experiment will b ccntin ued for several years, according to Mr. Martin, in order determine whether or not forcing the hens for egg production has any effect on their breeding qualities.
