A musical and literary program was presented, the prin cipal participants being Ralph Cone, who sang a number of se lections, and Miss Marian Em mons, who pleased the guests with some violin solos. Miss Jeanne Saucy and Mlsa Eunice Hart, students at McMlnnville col lege, are spending the holidays in Salem. , The Philharmonic orchestra of the First Christian - church has prepared a special musical pro gram for Easter Sunday, to consist of the following numbers: The Imperial Life Guard " march by R. B. Hall. "The Exalted Ruler," march, by R. B. Hall. "Pott and Peasant, by Suppe. "The Holy City, by Stephen Adams. (Cornet solo by Martha Swart with orchestra and pipe or gan accompaniments. In the evening the orchestra will nresent the "Madonna Over ture." by Theodore .Moses and "Berceuse' by P. Baumont. The music department of the Salem high school, Lena Belle Tartar director, will give the most pretentious undertaking of the year when a cast of 12 principals and a chorus of 60 voices will stage "The Gypsy Rover," a ro mantic musical comedy in three acts. The "comedy aa presented will represent the actual class work of the department. Up to the pres ent time the entire amount of preparation, with the exception of three night rehearsals, has been done during the regular recita tion period. No assignments to others than members of the class have been made to principals or chorus. The work as given will include no Imported soloists nor orchestra members. Some splendid young singers will be presented for the .first time as soloists; others will be seen for their initial appearance in character interpretations. The hiah school orchestra will add areatlT to the performance by furnishing an artistic accompani ment and by supplying popular numbers during the Intermission As a pretty supplement to the Monday Night Dancing club fes tivities Mrs..
