day, according to a police report,
when" he drove past a street car
while; it was stopped to receive and
unload passengers. He was
brought into the police station by

answer to the charge before Judee

about two miles north ot Salem.

lice Mr. Redimaker said that a
two-ton truck traveling in the
same direction without an end
light, stopped on the road. In
turning out to go around the Red
imaker automobile struck the rear
end of the truck, and it was then
the car was damaged. The occu
pants escaped unharmed.

Automobile Collide
Thad Fell of Sweet Home, while
driving an automobile at the in
tersection of Front and Center
streets, collided with another au
tomobile, slightly damaging it,
when he attempted to escape a
collision with a street car. Mr.
Fell reported to the police depart
ment that he was entirely at fault
and would pay all damages.

Senator Patterson of Benton
and Polk yesterday introduced a
bill to safeguard funds "derived
from the sale of bonds for irri
gation and drainage districts.
Security Called For
The bill provides that all the
money so derived shall be depos
ited by the treasurer of the dis
trict In banks designated by the
state treasurer. Preference shall
be ziven to banks in counties
here the districts are located
The banks selected shall be re
quired to give security to the dis
trict for the safe keeping ana
prompt payment of any moneys
olaced on deposit. The security
mar be a surety bond or other
forms -of securities and these
Khali be held by the state treas
urer for safe keeping.
In event ct failure of a bank
havlnr. tbe funds on deposit to
make prompt payment when de
manded, the state treasurer is
authorized and directed to sell
any or all of the securities, pay
ing the proceeds over to tne treas
urer of the Irrigation or drainage
district.
The treasurer of any district
failing to comply with the act
would be held cuilty of a mis
demeanor and sentenced to pay
fine not exceeding $5,000.

senate bill No. 6 ot the 1920
special session, validating certain
drainage districts, was sustsined
without dissent, as was another
bill Increasing certain salaries of
county officers in Umatilla coun
ty. Another bill Is to be suo-
stituted.
A senate joint resolution was
introduced by Upton authorizing
the senate and the house irriga
tton and drainage districts to
meet 'tn joint session and to em
ploy Clerical - help.
