I i AT RANDOM. ltow many people in Salem know where Lemrock station, Ore gonls located? Would those who have never heard of such a. place be surprised to lsarn that this railway station is within the city limits of tbe CspltsI City? Thst It Is located at the corner of Twelfth and Marlon streets? Well, such is the esse. Had Lemrock station be?n built 25 feet further south. Lem rock would have been on the male line of tbe Southern Pacific, be tween Portland and San FrancU- co. As It is now located It Is one of the city stops of the Dallas. Falls City A Western railway. Southern Pacific branch line. 1 No main line trains ston at Lemrock or will perhaps for some time to corns unless someone accident ally leaves tbs switch open. Bat thst 'does not prevent passengers on the Dallas-Falls City line from bonding up a traffic at this sta tloa The station itself Is a one story building, three feet square, and 11 ts Interior furnishing con sists' of a railroad telephone. While the trainmen are receiving orders to take the main line to the regular passenger station, pas. seng-Ts are permitted to alight for the convenience of those living In tbat part of the city. The bulk of this branch trsffle is hsndled st tbe corner of Commercial snd Union streets., but this little slru board telephone station Is build- in r. no a trsffle of Its own Th pie alighting from an evening train fair week. Regular passen gers can be seen dally waiting for the outgoing train. It Is a aa c!as which will spell romethtn in a large way some day la the future. Passengers who are now sitting under Frank Soathwlck's apv-le tree, waiting for the train, will be hollering for a pressi brick station before long. I can't find the word "Lerarork" in my dictionary, and don't know what the word means, however, it is a pretty word and It does not sound bad at all to speak of Lemrock station. Salem. Oregon. The' sudden dowapoarlng of rain daring the last days of tbe stats fair, practically reducing the great exhibition of Oregon' products to a three days most successful meet, raises tbe ques tion as to whst we are soing to do about It. Something mutt be done to kep the wzatnir from Interfering with on. most in port ant exhibition held la the state. I Either we mast chant- the date to the first part of Aujn.u or find some wsy to keep It ralalng in Sept?mber and October. There are several individuals of whem' It said that tbey can make It rain easy enough, bat wbn In the world can make It stopT Tiero u a lot of talk going on all the time about tbe rain and the state fair, but It amounts to nothing.
