Far ther details of nary target "prac tices' conducted during the past year, made public at the navy de partment, show that while thej snore, range name practice scores were somewhat lower than a year ago, the efficiency of the major ships at long range practice under simulated battle conditions was greatly Improved. Firing by di visions at ranges up to 20,000 yards, the battleship scores showed an average merit of 33.76 this year as compared with 6.56 a year ago. In day firing at long ranges for individual ships the average merit this year was 44.46. the an nouncement said, against 32.67 last year, an improvement of 139 per cent.
