When do you think that will be?"
"There's no reason why I should
n't come tomorrow if only Dicky
does not imagine I'm neglecting nls
mother." 1 answered. "The danger
of rhok is rassed now. and while,
of course, the broken arm Is painful
yet there Is no acute Illness. And
Cousin Agatha Is a wonderful nurse.
Sh doesn't lewe her cousin for 10
ni "'it" at a time, and all her usual
acerbities seem to be softened. She
and Mother Graham were having" a
wonderfully good visit yesterday over
their childhood. You know they
were brought up almost together."
"Yes, I know, and I can Imagine
the woman Is a good nurse. She
ought to be romelhing to make P
for the trouble she has caused you.
And from what you say I can Me no
reason why you couldnt come back
liere tomorrow. Katie surely does
n't need you, and If your Cousin Aga
tha Is so busily engage with yoor
mother-in-law she won't have time
to bedevil poor Katie, and every
thing will be smooth as tee while
you are gone."
The "Easy" Hours.
I stifled the Impulse to retort thnl
there would be as many opportuni
ties for ngly falls as smooth Ice
would afford. I had voluntarily of
fered myself to thu service under
Lilian. It wasn't for ma to draw
back even in thought from it. But I
could not shake off a mental vtalon
of Katie's race when I should tell her
that she would be left to Cousin
Agatha's tender mercies for a wee:.
Lillian relieved the situation some
what ror me with her next words.
"Of course, there will be no need
for you to stay here at night." she
said. "And as Harry It The lastest
man in the country about getting up

for you to waste any time at the B-

take very long. I oerht to be abl
to be home by 4 o'clock.
I knew better than to voice the
curiosity I (elt as to Lillian's reas
ons for wishing m to be at home
early. She eatfled it herself, how
ever, with her next sentct.ee.
"When you reach Marvin." she
said. " 'phone me from sonw plar

rived. Then when you have had time
to reach the house I'll telephone
Dickv. I don't want him to sar

you'll be at home, understand? And

REGARDING
PRICES
We hare been asked so many timet to express our
opinion in regard to prices of merchandise thit we
deem it oar doty to issue this statement, Hailed
as is our information.
We might say that one guess is as good as
another where the sources of information are tie
same.
Our opinion which seems to be shared by
many large Eastern firms is that staple catlaps
and domestics for erery day use will tnimtifa
their present prices for some time and may ex en p
slightly higher later in the season.
The silk market has taken a sudden drop izt
largely to the labor troubles and unrest in Japim.
There are many who predict that whaterer
fall in price there has been is only temporary aad
that the market will recover. However our id rue
would be to go slow. Buy only your isxaediiU

for the week were 48.810.000 feet,
cr 1627 cars. The rail orders were

The mills are continuing their

CHAPTER 606
HOW LILLIAN AND MADGE COM
PLETED THEIR PLANS TO FIND
HARRY CASUALLY.
I wonder what will be the most
plausible pretense to get you into
town every day for a week or so?"
Lillian looked at me thoughtfully
as we sat in her library after our ex
citing adventure with the spying ma
rauders. "Why not the one of which you
spoke when you thought you needed
me before?"
I was prompt to answer her, for
her approval of my other suggestion
concerning the best way of encoun
tering Harry Underwood accidental
ly had emboldened me. had given me
confidence in my own mental pro
cesses. Besides I susDected that Lil
lian, like most persons of mental ac
tivity and quick decisions, hated an
appearance of uncertainty in any
one.
She rewarded me with a flashing
glance of approval.
"You mean that I need your his
torical knowledge in delving Tor me
into some costume lore of some il
lustrations I have to get out?"
"Yes." I returned. "And It would
give me an excuse for being at the
library also. I would like to have
one already prepared If Mr. Under
wood seee me. for I'm never any
good at quick Inventions."
"I don't know about that." Lil
lian returned. "I'm beginning to
think you can meet any emergency of
thought or action, my dear. Hut
