Don Upjohn, who recently recover
ed from a few day's illness and re
turned to his desk in the executive
offices, is again on the sick list. He
i3 said to be suffering from an ail
ment da to inhaling the odor caused
by painting the interior of the gover
nor's chambers. Mr. Upjohn's con
dition is not considered serious,
however, and ha probably will be at
his office within the next few days.

The Phez company filed a reply to

Gibson and others in the circuit court
yesterday. In the answer the plain

defendants and asked the court for

brought suit against the farmers, al
leging that they have not complied

Although there has been no con
ventions or other gatherings of Im
portance in Salem during the past
week, the hotels are aaid to be
crowded to capacity. This is taken
to indicate, hotel managers say. that
many people are being attracted
here by the prosperity that now pre
vails in this part oi the state.

The body of the late Dr. Richard
Watson Hurlburt. who was recelv
ing medical treatment at a local hos
pital for more than a year, was gnt
to Portland for burial yesterday. He
died here Wednesday. Dr. Hurlburt

from Ontario, Canada, with his wife,
who died two years later. They had
