into Portland by airplane from Can

The higher educational tax act.

ial session ofi the legislature, to be
voted on at the special election in
May, is now equipped with a oallot
title. Attorney General Brown havin
completed it yesterday. The bill lev
ies a, total mlilage tax for the three
state institutions for higher (earning
amounting approximately to $1,247.-
00 on ihe tasis'-of the tTreent as

state. In-addition the bill directly
appropriates that amount of money
for the present year for the reason
that the tax is already levied for
this year and the miUage levy could
not be made to -apply.
The ballot titlte follows:
Purpose: Providing In addition to
annual tax levy now provided by
law. a tax of 1.2 mills for Oregon
Agricultural college ant University
ot 'Oregon, and ;i6 mills for Oregon
State Normal school, totaling
proximately $1,217,000: appropriat
ing for the current year from moneys
now in treasury a sum equal to said
annua tax levy; said money being
for support and maintenance, includ
ing salaries, additional buildings,
making repairs, purchasing supplies,
equipment and scientific apparatus:
providing thit a vote for enactment
of this art shall make said tax an
annual levy in excess of tax for the
preceding year plus 6 per centum
thereof."

John Hardwig Passes
Alter Lingering Illness
John I). Hardwick. who for the past
two years has been living about three
miles south of Salem on the Jeffer
son road, died yesterday afternoon
at the home of his daughter. Mrs.
Charles McKinley. 1438 North Cot
tage street where he was taken ill.
He was 62 years old.
He is survived by his widow. Mrs.
Iaura I). Hardwick, three daughters.
Mrs. Charles McKinley. Mrs. David
Heese. and Miss Stella Hardwick. all
of Salem, three grandchildren. Regi
nald Reese. Margaret and Maynard
McKinley. One sister and two bro
thers also survive him.
