statement made by Larson concern
ing the Centralia incident was mis
construed by a Salem man to mean
that the boys were in sympathy with
the I. V. W., but Larson, who is an
ex-service man, states emphatically

Funeral Held Yesterday
The funeral services for Jacob
Starr who died last Thursday were
held yesterday afternoon from the
Christian church, Rev. Leland R. Por
ter officiating. The funeral was
held at 2 o'clock and the body was
laid to rest in City View cemetery.
Class Wednesday Night
The literary appreciation section
of the Art league will meet Wednes
day evening at 7:30 at the public
library with study of the first les
sons on the short story. This is be
ing conducted by'. Mrs. E. C. Rich
ards. A list of the assigned reading

late Saturday night. According to
the usual custom and ceremonials or
the Chinese his death was not report

vived by a wife and eight children.
The funeral services will be held
from the Rigdon chapel Tuesday
morning at 11 o'clock. Burial will
be in Odd Fellows cemetery.

Captain X. T. Ward, formerly of
Pendleton, who has just returned
from overseas, has. taken a position
in the automobile department of the
office of the secretary of state. Cap
tain Ward served with the 35th di
vision in France and received four
serious wounds in action, having
gone through much of the heaviest
righting. Since .his return be has
been living In Oakland. Calif.

Taken to Vancouver
Harold Woodard. an employe of a
local restaurant, was arrested by
Sheriff Need ham Saturday on a lar
ceny charge and was returned" to
Vancouver yesterday by Deputy Sher
iff Laws of Clarke county. Washing
ton. Woodard is alleged to have
stolen a suit of clothes, a suit case
and a pair of shoes.

can be prevented among children and
that the little victims of it can be

sembly rooms, well ventilated and
with windows opened, are otilited.
Every morning and afternoon there
