British forces In Palestine under
command of General Allenby attack
ed the Turkish positions on a front
of 16 miles on September 19. The
British broke th'rough the Turkish
lines between Ratal and the sea and
pushed forward for a distance of 12
miles. Three thousand Turks were
taken prisoner.
The main Turkish forces In Pales
tine are being closely pursued by the
British.
The cavalry pushed through the
Truklsh front and was advancing in
the rear of the Turkish armies in the
direction of Nablus. Another body
of cavalry was advancing in north
easterly direction toward Elafula and
Beisan to intercept the Turks to the
north. -' '
On Wednesday General Allenby'a
light wing attacked west of the Jor
dan and occupied 1 Mugeir.
El Mugeir is the Junction of sev
eral roads and its capture will pre
vent the Turks from escaping east
ward. There are 18,000 Turks on
the west and, 6000 on the east. Gen
eral Allenby now is behind the main
. Turkish force west of the Jordan,
which will, have difficulty in extricat
ing itself, especially as the Arabs
have cut the Hedjas railway east of
Lake Tiberus. ,

loan workers will storm the trenches for Salem's final big
onslaught onto the Hun. '
Every liberty loan worker is satisfied that Salem will
justify the terrific efforts made by the lads at Chateau
Thierry and at St Mihiel, and like those lads come home
with the bacon when the night is over. v '
No mercy will be shown to the slackers. General Stein-
er and his corps of corns and non-coms have made thai plain
as day. ,
As an instance-the Albin and Craber team discovered
a couple of workers- in the Spaulding mill yesterday who
told them to go to Hindenbnrg's future abiding pi ace. in re
sponse to a civil question as to the liberty loan. The answer
will be a report to the United States Attorney.- This need
not be taken as a slam at the Spaulding mill generally, be
cause almost to a man besides the two mentioned above the
employes have subscribed up to the hilt
Every man who fails to do his duly in this crisis, or
fails to show some ample and valid reason why he should
not respond liberally, to the liberty loan draft, will have
Uncle Sam to exalain to. The workers have evolved the
I theory thai if a man can take a chance at sacrificing his life
in the trenches in the cause of human liberty he can sacri
fice a few. dollars in the same cause, or go the same roattf
as the soldter slacker.
One man declared that he didn't like the people in
charge of the drive. He didn't say whether he liked Uncle
Sam or not But it will be vividly brought home to that
man that the workers on this job are volunteering their ser
vices for their country and that a subscription to the liberty
loan is not a subscription to the liberty loan workers, but
is a subscription to knock the L out of Wilhelm. -

m.) Although It is only a week
since the Franco-American force de
livered tbe St. Mihiel Balient, with
its more than 150 square miles,
from possesion of the enemy, a slen
dcr stream of Its former Inhabitants
of the region has already begun to
flow into the liberated territory.
The stream Is a slender one be
cause the people who originally fled
before the German advance have
been gone for more than four years
and many of them have formed new
ties and associations, but every day
sees truckloads of peasants or dwel
lers In towns and villages of the
