Good Band Is Prospect

DALLAS. Or., March 28. (Spe
cial to The Statesman.) At a meet
ing of a number of local musicians
last night at the commercial club
he proposal of organizing a band
for the purpose of giving concerts
this summer was discussed and the
prospects are that Dallas will have
an organization of that kind In the
near future. Dallas has always been
famous 'I r rood bands and a couple
of years ago had one of the best or
ganizafis of the kind In the Will
amette valley. Bert Downey, the
leader at that time. Is now director
of the band of the 162nd Infantry,
of which Company L of this city Is
a party. A number of the Dallas
boys are also with Downey as mu
sicians. There is. however, a lot of
good material to choose from and It
Is possible thatt T S. Grant, who
conducted the band here several
years ago, can be" Induced to direct
