The movement took certain of the
professional element by surprise be
cause it was thought that overnight
news from abroad, particularly the
fresh Teutonic offensive In Russia,
might precipitate moderate liquida

There was a moderate ieflumpt!on

gross advances of one tAo thiee

Oats Prices Tumble
Because Corn Is Weak
CHICAGO, March 14. Rapid pil
ling up of stocks at leading terminals
did a good dealtoday to bring about
a break in the value of corn. Prieva
closed heavy, e to 74 0 lc net
lower, with March $1.27', and May
$1.26i. Oats foil lc to 17c and
provisions 5c to 7c.
Oats tumbled on account of th
weakness of corn. Reports of ex
cellent headway In seeding opeia
tlons formed an additional weight
on the market. ' )
In provisions, the downward swing
of coarse grain more than counter
balanced the effect of higher quo
tations cm higs.

Americans over here is, of course,,
not for publication.
This gratifying record Is regarded
as a splendid tribute to the flotil
la's senior surgeon who holds the
rank of. lieutenant-commander and
his two assistants. Junior surgeous,
who rate as lieutenants.
Sixty-two operations under gen
et al anaesthesia have been perform
ed by this trio Since the arrival ot
the first of the American destroyers
over here last spilng. The majority
of these were abdominal operations.
And all were donff without a single
case of infection, a noteworthy polnL
In the same period there were 189
minor operations. These were done
under local anaesthesia.
The medical work consisted chief
ly of the care and treatment ot res
piratory disease due to exposure
from inclement weather, cold and
dampness, and sea watches In rough
weather.
There has also been a consider
able amount of- laboratory work
The general health of the Ameri
cans continues excellent, despite the
rigors of the raw, depressing climate
peculiar to the south coast of Ire
land. They miss the dry, crisp win
ter weather of the northern part of
the United States. The dampness
hereabouts causes colds to be con
tracted easily and weakened consti
tutions crack under the strain. A
few of such men have been sent
back to the United States but
greater majority of the sailors re
in better health than in time of
peace. " . 'A: y ,
