Prlestsof all con fessions are no longer authorized to solemnize a marriage which, has not been previously registered before a Turkish magistrate. ; Polygamy J recognized by the new law; but should' a Moslem, wish to take unto himself a second wife, he j may no longer divorce the first one upon the second, bride's demand, as has been the practice. , Under the old .Turkish system, divorce were. not difficult to obtain, and. wivesj had few rights. 'The new .law, how-; ever, places the wife' status oh a much higher level.
