tol building at 4:30 o'clock this aft
ernoon In honor of twenty-three
young men from the several offices
at the state bouse who have enlisted
for service In the war. A service
flag, which, is to be displayed in a
conspicuous place In the capitol
building, will be dedicated at that
time. Governor Wit hvcombe will
make the dedicatory address. .

hard-snrfacing of the Pacific high
way fmm Salem f or v distance of
twenty-one miles north. Because th
road Is a postroad the government
Is , to pay half the cost of construc
tion work, the state paying 'the
other half.
Hard surfacing cf the road I to
begin as soon as weather will per
mit, and will be done probably with
one of the state's new paving plants.
This plant Is now in Portland, but
when the work, begin. If done by the
stated, the plant will be moved to
Brooks where it will remain while
the -first ten mile of the work is
