Corn Price Advances
1 ! as Receipts Are Small
CHICAGO. Jan. M. Fresh
strength developed In the corn mar
ket I today owing largely to scanti
ness of receipts. The market clos'd

7-8 if or May Oats finished un

Almost from the outset, com
price displayed a 1 tendency to ad
vance. Notwithstanding that terr'f
ic conditions on the railroads were
said to have improved fo some ex
tent. the fact remained that no sub
stantial increase of arrivals here had
yet taken place and the country of
ferings were not large. On the oth
er hand, big quantities of soft corn
appeared to be still awaiting dispose
at on the part of rural holders. Ad
vances kept, therefore, within mod
erate limits, .
Oats climbed to the hiaheat point
yet this season, and finished at the
topmost level reached. Demand
from I shorts were persistent and re
ceiots were meager. ;
Despite higher prices in ) the hog
market, upturns in provisions were
more than wiped out. Slowness of
cash demand was a bearish factor.
