Taking the Indians. The letter ad
"dr essed to Superintendent Meacham by
our County Court has stirred up bat
functionary considerably, and we notice
that be bas bad men out to capture the
roving Indians and taken tbetn to their
homes provided for them by the Govern
'iiient. While the removal of these Indians
may be a source of inconvenience to some
'of our citizens for whom they have work
ed, we cannot regard their removal la
nay other sense only of great benefit. The
good they do does not approximate the
evil, andVhiie those who have had- them
working may missthem. they must remem
ber that they are not alone in their dis
appointment. Several of our young men
hi town who have been frequenting their
'dens, will be able to sing "I have no one
left to caress me now." It is far better
.hat onr citizens should seek other means
of having their work done thai to have
the young men, whose parents appear to
have lost control of them, thrown in con
tact with them, and we are truly glad
that the evil is being put out of the reach
of these wayward and degenerated sons.
It is our opinion that the "mean whites''
are most responsible for the evil caused
. by the Indians' presence, but as they can
not be removed, the next best thing is to
remove the Indians. But we might as
well say here, that this farce of removing
Indians and taking them to their reserva
tions has become monotonous. They take
them this week, and next week we will
have a new lot out on "passes"' given by
the Agents, and then there will be another
cry lor their removal. Let them stay
where ihey belong or let theui alone.

Disagreeable Visitor. A man entered
the residence of Mr. Ilunsaker, below
town recently, about 12 o'clock at night.
He went through the upper part of the
house, without being heard and was pass
ing around on the first floor, when one of
the f anjily heard him, who supposed it
was one of the sons, who has been absent
for some time, rushed to meet him. But
the surprise was rather startling when the
'Jady found it was a stranger, and rushed
back to her chamber. The fellow pre
tended to be insane, and said he was look
ing for some one. He probably played
cruzzv for the occasion.
Excursion. The Senator brought up
about 100 persons on the M. E. excursion
1 Tuesday evening. The excursionists
were met at the wharf by the Oregon City
Dru.s Hand, and the company were es

peechi-s were made by Hon. J. F. Caples.

Council will do something about thi.s mat
ter at their next meeting.

Sr. Helen's Hall. We have been pre
sented by Rev. J. W. Sellwood the lirst
annual catalogue of this institution, which
has been in operation but little over one
year. The school has eleven accomplished
teachers, who ofTer the best training and
instruction in the English, classical and
scientific courses. One hundred and seventy-nine
pupils have been attending the
school during the past year. This school
has attained a most flattering position
within its short time of existence and now
ranks as the first school for girls in our
State. We recommend it to all adio de
sire their girls to receive a thorough and
practical education. The school is under
the immediate supervision of Rt. Rev.

from malarious, marsh, or miasmatic
poiijons.

called for by the necessities of
the American jieoplo than a
sure and safe cure for Fever
and Ague. Such we are now
enabled to offer, with a perfect
r.ertainty that it avLH eradicate
the disease, and with.,, assur
ance, founded on proof, that no harm c"i arise
from its use in any quantity. ' - -
That which protects from or prevents this dis
order must bo of immense Service in the com?-.
munities where it prevails. Prevention is IbetteiH
than cure, for the patient escapes the risk which
he must run in violent attacks of this baleful dis
temper. This "GritE" expels the miasmatic
poison of Fever and Ague from the system,
and prevents the development of the disease, if
taken on the lirst approach of its premonitory
symptoms. It is not only the best remedy ever
yet discovered for thrs class of complaints, but
also the cheapest. The large quantity we sup
ply for a dollar brings it within the reach of
evervbodv; and in bilious districts, whero
Fever ani Ague prevails, everybody- should
have it, and use it freely, both for cure and pro
tection. It Is hoped this price will place it w-ithin
the reach of all the poor as w ell as the rich.
A great superiority of this remedy over any
other ever discovered for the speedy and certain
cure of Intermittcnts is, that it contains no Qui
nine or mineral; consequently it produces no
quinism or other injurious effects whatever upon
the constitution. Those cured by it are left as
health as if they had never had the disease.
Fever and Ague is not alone the consequence
of the miasmatic poison. A great variety of dis
orders arise from its irritation, among which
arc Neuralgia, Rheumatism, Gout, Headache,
Blindness, Toothache, Earache, Catarrh, Asth
ma, Palpitation, Painful Affection of the Spleen,
Hysterics, Pain in the Bowels, Colic, Paralysis,
and derangement of the .Stomach, all of which,
when originating in this cause, put on the in
termittent type, or become periodical. Thip
"Ccue" expels the poison from the blood; and.
consequently cu res the in oil alike. Itds an in
valuable protection to immigrants amf persons
travelling or temporarily residing ft the mala
rious districts. If taken occasionally or daily
while exposed to the infection! that will be ex
creted from the system, and cannot accumulate
in sufiieient quantity to ripen into disease.
I fence it is even more valuable for protection
than cure; and few will ever suffer from Inter
mittcnts if they avail themselves of the protec
tion this remedy affords.

ducing many truly remarkable cures, where
