Coat News. The steamer Albany has
taken the place of the i anme l'atton irom
this place to Salem, and the Shoo-Fly the
place of the Albany from Salem to Cor-
viillis. The Fannie Patton has been laid
up. The amount of freight coming down
the river is very small at present, owm
to the fact that the high price for wheat
nnd wool this spring, all the surplus wa3
forced in market, and the country has
been drained to its foundation. The
amount of up freight is good for this sea
son of the year.

being done, alluded to in his article, and
to Mr. Geo. Clark for the stone masonry
upon which rests the husk frame. All
the work and plans were made, save the
belting chests and other work connected
therewith, which is being Soiie by "Mr.
Irving of Ohio," was planned and done
bv Mr. Peals, part of which was done
long ago, in contenplation of a thorough
change to be made in said mills and
when completed no better mills can be
found on the coast.

21x70 feet, two stories high, with a kitch
en wing, and can accommodate twenty
Jive boarders. The charges per week are

day for keeping a horse.

Badly Hurt. Frank Dement, our devil.
'met with an accident last Friday at Soda-
ville. He was standing on a log, when he
slipped, falling on a sharp-pointed stick,
which penetrated his body three or four
inches. It was a narrow escape from se
rious injuries. We learn that others have
also met with slight accidents, but the
above is the most serious.
Arre.stkd. Two Chinamen were ar
rested last Wednesday evenirg for fight
ing and disturbing the peace. They were
taken before the Recorder and fined,
when one of the Celestials took the priv
ilege of making too much noise in Court,
when his honor was determined that the
dignity of the Court ninst be sustained,
and fined Mr. John for contempt.
Nkw Steamkr. The new boat being
built by the P. T. Company to take the
place of the Reliance on the upper river,
is fast nearing completion. She will be
ready to take her place on the line this
fall, and will be the largest boat on the
tipper river, as well as the most hand
somely finished.
Sold Olt. Hon. J. S. Smith has pur
chased the stock owned by lion. D. P.
Thompson in the Willamette Lock and
Canal Company. Hon. O. Hummasonhas
do sold his interest in the Company to
R. R. Thompson. Esq.. and Dr. Loryea.

po & Wilhoit are running a hadfc from this
city to the Soda Springs. They leave
Sods Springs every Tuesday. Thursday

A farmer named "Watt Carr, re
siding near Ilamiltom, Ohio, while
conversing with some friends on
the stoop of his house concerning
the manner in which Mr. Vallan
digham shot himself, it is stated,
attempted to illustrate it with a
loaded pistol, tind succeeded in the
illustration precisely as Mr. Val-landio-hani
did. He fell instantly
and died in a few hours.
