Female Temper,
Xo trait of character is more vat- j
liable in a female than the posses
CD sion of a sweet temper. Oh, we
can never be made happy without
it. It is like the flowers that
spring1 up in our path way, reviving
and cheering us. Let a man go
home at night, wearied and worn
by the toils of the day, and how
soothing is a word dictated by a
good disposition ! It is sunshine
falling on his heart. lie is happy
and the cares of life are forgotten.
A sweet temper has a soothing in
fluence over the minds of a whole
family. Where it is found in the
wife and mother, you observe kind
ness and love predominating over
the natural feeling of a bad heart.
Smiles, kind words and looks char
acterize the children, and peace and
love have their dwelling there.
Study, then, to acquire and retain
a sweet temper. It is more" valua
ble than gold, it captivates more
than beauty, and to the end of
lift' retains all its freshness and

How They do it at the East.
" Neck-Tie Parties" are becom

States, and we have heard of one
in this city, within the last few

how they do it at the East. An
Ohio paper does them up as fol

The Congregational

it will Unproductive of a good deal
of fun, especially if, by the merest
chance in the world, you know
three or four ladies should happen
to wear dressos made of the same
material and color. Here's the
way they do it there : Every lady
attending the party will be ex
pected to prepare a gentleman's
neck-tie of the same material of
the dress she wears for the evening,
and hand it to the doorkeeper, who
will give her a number. Every
gentleman will receive at the door
an envelope containing a neck-tie
and number corresponding to the
number in the hands of the lady
furnishing the neek-ti1. He will
immediately go to the dressing
room, put on the neck-tie and com
mence search for the lady donor,
whom he is to find by matching his
tie with the dress. When he de
cides that he lias found the giver,
lie is expected to entertain her at
the table where oysters, ice cream
and colfee will be served at the
usual prices. When this is done,
the lady will present her number,
Cjind if the gentleman can match it
with the number lie turns m his en

If he makes a wrrng selection he
must try again. The ties will be
of such value that they will amply
repay several mistakes."

Governor Brown's purpose ? The

of liadicalism, than of the poetry
of a dream cosmic philosopher,
which he made the veil for ambit

them his cruel purpose is apparent
to fasten with tenacious claws
upon Democratic sympathy and
support.

Improved Method of Seccring Dental
Fillings. Dr. Mack, of this city, baa in--)
vented a new method of securing the fill
ing of teeth without any danger of des
troying them by paring away, as has been
the case heretofore. When a tooth had
been worn away, or the interior had be
come diseased, the usual method employed
was to use an excavator and cut out the
inside portion. leaving nothing but a mere
shell, and then fill the excavation with
gold foil. By the method the doctor has
invented no scooping out is required, and
therefore the teeth will stand longer. He
uses a little drill, and with this he bore3 a
hole in the interior of the tooth. A screw
is then used to make a thread where the
hole has been bored. Into the hole a
gold nib, containing a screw, is inserted
by mean i of a very delicate instrument,
just large enough to hold it. Two or three
of those nibs are inserted in the tooth and
the gold foil is packed between tiiem. As
the tilling is pressed down the screws
form a thread upou it, therefore the mre
t is pressed the harder it becomes. Dy
this means the teeth are not destroyed.
and the tilling will wear longer. We saw
one gentleman, who had worn his teeth so
much by chewing tobacco that the upper
and lower tier would not meet when the
mouth was closed. Six of them were
filled by the new method, and they met as
in their natural condition before they had
been worn away. I he invention is a
useful one and a" great improvement to
dentistry. Herald.
