Now into my work-box, 1I tbe buttons finding, TMigling np tbe knitting, Every spool unwinding Now into the basket i ; Where tiie keys are hid Jen, So miscbievious-looking. Knowing it forbidden. Then the mother's tresses, Now her neck enfolding, With such sweet caresses, Keeping off the scolding. Darling little fingers. Jfefer, never still ; Make them, Heavenly Father. One day do Thy will. The Health of our Girl3- How many perfectly heathlv women'of thirty-five, or even of twenty-five, do any of us know ? Could they not all be told on our fingers? And oh, how wearisome is life to a broken down mother, with the wants and cares of life clitstcrnrg' about her, while she has no strength to meet them ! The cause and fault lie largely "with the mothers. They are chiefly responsible for this sad condition of our American women. The remedy must be in paying more attention to the health "of our little girls. That should bo the great consideration, next to our moral training. The intellectual culture must give place to that most important matter, or the saddest results will surely follow. If the cultivation of a sound, vig orous constitution is made the main object of the first fifteen or fdxteen years, there will be a vast flood of suffering swept away from our land in the next crenera tion. The present school system for young ladies is a terrible drain on the life force, and a thorough change should be demanded by mothers before entrusting their girlsBto its tender mercies. The oven-flowing spirts of our boys drive them to vigorous out-door sports, which largely counteract the influences of the poisoned heated air in ill-ventilated school rooms, and the overtaxing of brain by the multiplicity of lessons, But a girl's habits and the gen eral sentiments of " good society," tender in her case entirely the other way. Hearty plays are "unladylike," and what well-bred girl will risk acquiring such a rep utation? This sentiment works its deadly mischief, but it may in a measure be couteracted by giv ing our girls domestic employment. This may be varied, and is very healthful, because of the multi tude of muscles brought into ac tion. IJesides, it is a lesson. which will be life-long service to them. Early instill into their minds the Jirineiple that work is noble, and lonorable that to be a useless drone in the world's busy hive is despicable. Teach them to live for a purpose, and to consider all right knowledge as so much gained toward the great end. No one can tell where or when the little lssson, learned so thought lessly at the time, may come in use, nor bow great may be their value. But with all their acquirements, let "a sound mind j. in a sound body" be your study and aim un ceasingly, and if God spare your life you will not fail to see your reward. Country Gentleman. Grant and Porter have settled the little miunderstanding, and are now as loving as two sick kittens. "Verily, verily, I say unto you, Porter, my boy, you shall be ad miral !" "Brave Grant, unassum ing, unaspiring, noble Grant, I'll tell no more talcs out of school to Gideon Welles, the scamp !" The Iuka (Miss.) Gazette says there is a man living in Itawamba county by the name of John Owens, who was 111 years old on the 15th day of October last. He was born in North Carolina and has resided in this State for the last forty years. He has been twice married, the last time when he was 94 years old. C The revolutionary party at Home, on the 9th iust, raised a tu mult w hich at one time threatened to end in the sack of the Valtican. The organs of generation, when in perfect health, MAKE TIIE MAN. Did You Ever Think that those bold. defiant, energetic.persevering, successful business men, are always those whose gencrati.-e organs are in perfect health ? " Von rever hear such men complain of be ing melancholy, of nervousness, or palpita tion of the heart. I do not mean those who keep the organs inflated by running to excess. These will not only RUIN THEIR CONSTITUTIONS, but also those they do business with or for. How many men, from badly cured diseases, froiy the effects of self-abuse and excesses, have brought about that state of weakness in those orgaus that ha reduced the general system so much as to induce almost every other disease IDIOCY, liHSTACY, PARAILYSIg, spinal affections, suicide, and almost everj other form of disease which humanity is heir to. and the real cause of the trouble scarcely ever suspected, and have doctored for all but the right one.
