Portland, au retired from the business for
the present. Jake has a ho-ifc af friends, all
over the State, and all wioh him the best
of success in whatever business he may
hereafter engage. The hotel has been
bought byAL Zieber and Dan. Ilolton,
both well" and favorably knownwho pro
pose to re fit th'bouse and open it as a
first-class hotel. We believe they will
. prove to beery popular landlords.
Oysters. The enterprising landlord of
tin; Cliff House Restaurant, has established
oyster stand, and is ready to furnish
this luxury in any style and at all times to
las customers. We recently took a view
of the interior of this house, and can say
that it is well-furnished, and accommoda
tions now furnished to tUje public at this
house are s.cond to no hotel in the State.
The rooms have been all newly furnished
j recently and are kept ia excellent order.

fellow attempted to gain an entrance

- She heard the noise and striking a light,
gave an alarm vhen the fellow ran

' r-even years of age, the daughter of Mr.
J. S. Clnn9i. was drowned in the race of
the paper lactory on the Clackamas, last
; Wednesday" evening. We have not
learned ayy particulars, but understand
that the child was playing and accideutly
fell in. The body was recovered and
buried on Thursday.
Goon Road. Te following notice has
been handed us for publication:
Mr. Luck wishes you to say to the pub
lic and emigrants wishing lands, that there
is a new trail from Stanley "s mill in Moore
Galley, through to the' bay, and next
reason the wagon road will be finished the
entire distance to the Coast.
Nkkuki). A petition has been in circu
lation for signatures, asking the City
Council to have the steps leading up the
I'iil repaired. We should think that
when such improvements are needed, as
in this case. "t would hardly be necessary
to petition the Council to jlo their duty.

City postoflice will hereafter close punc
tually as follows : Going north, at 11:45
a. M.; going south, at 7:45 a. m. Persons
