War, Cetweex the States. -Th"? second
volume of this great woik by Ho 1. Alex-
at der II. Steplons, will scon be ready for
delivery, and ihe ag' tit for t!ds section of
the State, Mr. I). Wrigl t, expects a supply
for his subscribers in a fe-.v d tys. U'e have
received tiie following circular from A. L.
I'.iiiicro.t & Co., General Agents for the Pa
cific coast :
The second volume will contam more sterl
engravings, and an excess of nearly two
hundred p ic.es over the l'n st volume, without
any additional charge. Enormous and un
precedented as has been the sale of the first
volume, the demand for the second is still
more immenfe. Apprehension of its non
issue prevented multitudes from st curing
tither volume, until sure of both ; hence a
vast number of volume I is -et required,
which having been foreseen and piovideJ
for by the publishers, copies to supply this
class ot patrons are available.
It is proper to state that for the unusual
delay ia ihe appearance of the present vol
ume, our distributing agents are in no way
responsible - the detention having been
cans: 1 entirely by ;ts greatly increased size,
and the ill health of the author. Accom
plished under !orm:d.:blc ui I'cubies, it is all
the more gratify nsr to contemplate 1 1 e bril
l.ant success of this last, splendid effort of
our etnieetU statesman and historian. Con
temporaneous with, and the admitted peer
of, the immortal triumvirate Yeb-ier,Chvy
and Calhoun, and the only survivor of a
l and of statesmen of which the same century-
produces no duplicate. '
Tie- lirst volume of this work having fully
equaled, the second vastly surpasses the
chiinis set foi th in the prospectus, its im
meiise popularity is simply u legitimate and
foregone conclusion ; hence the genera1 deter-
ination evinced to obtain it at the earli
et op rtunity.
