" We have from time to time warned our citizens that there was a great deal ot counterfeit coin in circulation in and aroui.d this city. Our warnings have been disregarded, and a3 a consequence we hear most every day of some one being-taken in.r' The execution ot these counterfeits is in some cases good, while in others the work is very inferior. The bark Almatia brought up, on her last trip, a large quantity f material for the Salem Oas Works. From present in dications, our friends will soon enjoy the luxury of having their city lighted by gas. Dr. Loryea. while in the Eastern States, purchased a llambletoniau horse lull brother to the celebrated trotter Dexter. The animal is on his way out here and will shortly arrive. The Odd Fellows have negotiated upon a mortgage upon their building a loan ot twenty thousand dollars Irom the bank of Pritish Columbia. The money wid tie ex pemled in finishing the exterior of the building. From a gentleman recently from San Francisco we learn that it is the intention to form several parties to make an excur sion trip to this State (luring the coming summer. A large number of persons will visit this coast the present year from the Eastern States, and quite a number ol them will visit this tetate before they re turn home. Our citizens should exert themselves to m ike their visitors' stay as pleasant as possible. The members of the Fifteenth Amend ment Club represent that the Radical pot liic ans are endeavoring to have the words irrespective of parly'' stricken .rum the Constitution ot the Club. Quite a large number of the dark member.-; object, but the white Radicals threaten to withdraw if the words are retained. Gentlemen, give the poor black a chance. We learn that the heavy trestle work bridge on the West si le road, about two mdes from the city, has fallen in. 'I he late rains had washed away the earth on eiiher side and the biidgegave way.
