3 Sljctocckhj Enterprise. TOWN ASD COUXTV. There will be a meeting 01 iue Council oa Monday evenmg-week. City Levy wants to sell all bis tobacco be fore an y more Stamps are required. The Citv Council, at its last meeting, provided for stopping the leak at the res ervoir. The Man-trap, on Main street, near the Woolen factory, was ordered to be closed, at the last meeting of the Council; It is hoped it will be done. Miss Emma Smith will please accept the thanks of the Editor lor a fine bouquet of flagrant flowers from the fieldg of na ture, left at this office on Thursday. . -!- ' Mr. Win. Barlow has returned from a few months absence East of the Blue Moun tains none flattered with the prospects of that region. We are pleased to see him home again. The Entertainment given on Wednes day evening at the Court House for the benefit of the M. E. Sabbath School, was well attended, and netted a nice purse for the object for which it wa.3 called. Hev. Mr. Sellwood will officiate at Trinity Church Portland, to-morrow and Itev. Mr. Sloy of Trinity Church, will offi ciate at St. Pauls Church at the same time, in this city. ' The Oregon City Woolen Mills are now running full handed, manufacturing eassimers, tweeds, flannels, blankets, etc. The mill was thoroughly renovated, and is now in as good trim as when erected. We were asked a lew days since, to state how often the P. T. Company have doubled stock and for what purposes and how long it stuck, each time. We are compiling materials for a history of the secret workings ot the P. T. Co.. and we may be able to state a few interesting items "07i the side.'" The Senator leaves Portland for Ore gon City now immediately after they let go the head lines" at least so the capting told an old gentleman at Mihvaukie the other day, upon the latter inquiring, that lie might know when to be at the wharf. Precious youth that. Several ladies of this city and Cane- mah have exhibited to us beautiful wreathes of artificial flowers, which they have made under instructions from Mrs. M. L. McLeran of Portland, during the past ten (lay 9. They are certainly beau tiful specimens of nature's hand work, and attest the admirable taste of the ladies who have produced them. The question as to who shall keep the wafer works in repair canie up at the last jneeting of the Council. Some were lib eral enough to suppose that the city can pay $250 00 in coin every three months lor water, and repair the hydrants to boot else there would have been no " ques ..tiou',J about it. Ackerman is receiving his new spring stock, which is greater than any previous stock ever laid in by him, and the goods are of more than ordinary good quality. Our old friend Fred Chapman is still at the counters in Ackerman's. He showed t .some 01 tne choicest wall paper ever Selected for this market. Persons in want of wall pawcr should call upon Acker- tnao. - Wnt. Singer of this city is manufactur ing patent clothes rack, the right of which ha has purchased, which we recom mend to all housewives, as a most useful -article, always out of the way. It may be .attached to the wall, is readily adjusted, and just the tiuog for an ironing room or nursery. Aiiy ieisuu uuce using mis :rack would never give it up. Barnes A. Smith Esq. filed his bonds -with the County Clerk on the 6th, and has entered upon the duties of Justice of the Peace for this precinct. He will also at tend to the collection of debts, conveyanc ing real estate, etc., etc. See bis Card in another column, and bear his occupation In your mind when you wish a favor. Mr. .Smith would make an excellent City Re corder; and as an election is pending, wo nominate him, subject to a decision of the City Conreution. At the close of the Rebecca Degree fleeting on Thursday evening last, the members of the degree spent a pleasant hour with their invited guests in discuss ing an excellent supper. We were una ble to attend, but a friend at our elbow who was present tells us that if he were us he should say that at this time we feel too full for utterance; and will mere ly remark that the ladies of our city, on this occasion, as h their custom, did no Jbly.'' . . A small bay horse with a narrow, short white strip ia the face, two, perhaps three, white feet, left the premises of N. Andrus, on the Clackamas in this County, on the 26& utt. and has not been seen or &es.rdf tlnceit was at Waconda, on Tues day following. Any person leaving infor tmotion at this office that will lead to the -.recovery of the horse, will be suitably re garded. When the animal left, marks of a rope were to be distinctly seen around one of its binderraost limbs. Salem, Al .bany and Valley papers generally will confer a favor on a Brother Ed., by copy ing this notice. Ben. Holladay, Esq., and other gen 'tlemen.connected with the Oregon Central vRailroad Company, paid us a call on Wednesday last, while here en route to Portland from the animal meeting at Sa lem. All of the old baard of Directors were re-elected, and six additional, con sisting of Messrs. Asahel Bush, George Eades. J. H. Foster, S. M. Smith, Dr. J. C. "aytborne and Geo. W. Weilder. Hon. Jton. S. D. POPE, Principal. At the close of the exercises of Wednes day, we understand the pupils of the sem inary were addressed by the Rev. Mr. Gerry, in a manner calculated to leave an impression in the minds of those present. His happy illustrations, and forcible ap plications of practical truths, will doubt less have the effect of awakening a deeper interest in the youthful minds of the scholars attending our city school, in the various branches of study. We were dis appointed at not being able to be present, but believe that at no time in the history of our school, has more proficiency and interest on the p;rt of the pupils been displayed, as is evident by the rolls of honor and the cumber of certificates grauted. . Lot 3 in block seven, sold by Mr. Warner was purchased by S. Huelat, Esq.. for $065. This we term decidedly cheap. It is eligibly situated, on Main street, and will be good business property within two years. - o- We invite special attention to the new advertisement oU Mr. S. D. Francis this week. Mr. Francis has opened new dig gings there sure enough, and he is ready at all times to weigh out the profits to his customers. We observe by our San Francisco ex changes that C. C. Hastings still maintains the ascendency as the fashionable clothier of California. The public, ns well as the merchant, everybody-patronlze Hastings. See advertisement, The Annual Convention of preachers of the M. B. Church, of the Portland Dis trict. Avill be held at Hillsboro, May 25th. Thirty-six essays will be delivered, each to occupy from 15 to 50 minutes time. Tbete should be reported and published. The advertisement sent to this office by S. S. Wood, Newburg, Y will be inserted for three months, upon receipt of $10 00. Our terms are for transient busi ness like this, cash with the order. If otheF publishers would adopt that rule they would stop a gros3 imposition both upon themselves and their readers. . m . The P. T. Co, have been talking about constructing locks around the falls and claim to have sent an agent to the Eastern States to learn how to make 'em. Now this is all pretty well to talk, but we have an idea that the aforesaid agent had other plans in view, and will probably spend more time about Washington City, than at those places where locks and canals " do most abound." If there are any locks or canals up Salt river he may " take stock " of them. JEs-The want of a correct and reliable Map of Oregon and the Territories' of Washington and Idaho, has been long and seriously felt, both at home and abroad. To supply this want, has been the object of Mr. Rappleye in the important and re sponsible enterprise Avhich he has just completed. The nup has been compiled from the last and best authorities, com prising the U. S. coast survey and north ern boundary commission maps, general land office surveys, pacific railroad ex plorations, and data obtained by means of circular letters from the general post o&ce department, locating post offices and Post roads, and will be found in all its de tails the most accurate map ever pub lished. As the scale of the Map is twelve miles to an inch, every geographical feature of importance is clearly defined It is four feet by six feet in size? Printed in colors, in the finest style of copper-plate engraving, on the oest quality ot paper, and mounted on canvas and rollers. Snb ecnptions will be received at this office, where tbe map may be seen. THE OREGON DISPENSARY. 73 FIRST St., PORTUXD Bet. Stark and Washington. As the age in which we live demands progress in Farming Implements as well as in all other branches of indus try,! have entered extensively upon the Manufacture of the Celebrated Ffcil Gang Flow ! Better known in Oregon as the WOL GA MO T PL O W, This Plow com , bines all the desirable points of a per' feet implement, being simple in con struction, cheap, durable, and oj light draft. The only Premiums which were awarded to Gang Plows at the great Implement trial at Mattoon, Sept. 4, 1866, by ihe State Agricultural Soci ety of Illinois, were awarded to this Plow. .The following is an extract from the Report of the Commissioner of Agriculture, for the year 1S66, and may be found on page 26 of that re port . " The Gang Plow made by J. C. Pfeil, Arenzville, Cass county Illinois, is received with no little favor in the west. Almost in credible stories are told of its excellence and efficiency in plowing the prairie fields of Illinois and other States. ' The depth of the furrow is regulated by the crank-axle, which is so arranged that tdt ploughs can be driven deeper or shal lower ut tue pleasure of the driver, when the team is moving, by means or ine lever. We also manufacture suisey piows lor Rmnll hw. or infirm nrsons who are unable to manage a team of three or four horses. This gang or sulkey plow, wiu cui a iur row from 2 to 10 inches deep. " The committee who tested the draught of this plow with a dynamometer state, that it ran lighter by 140 pounds, than other plows when running at tne same aeptn, ana neia by the plowman while on foot." With this Plow one man can do more work than two men can do with walkina Plows, and the same amount of team. Hence, it will be seen that it will more than pay for itself m one seaso7i's plowing. I will also manufacture the WEB-F00T GANG PLOW! AND THE :Wcb-Foot Walking Plow! Both patterns of mv own invention. for which patents have been applied Jor, and which have withstood practi cal tests with the best results, receiving flattering testimonials wherever seen or tried.
