A.Sovflty ii SIiSp Mji.UisT2o JIo lusats Eig ?ov.Uy, oi ilostoii. From the Boston Traveler, January 20. A few weeks since we stated that the Atlantic Works, cf Last Boston, arere building an iron brig, dtsiued to c.ny niollasses in bulk, and have now to report that she will be launched from the GIei:dn Hulling Mills wharf on Saturday forenoon at high water. She is 130 feet long oa the keel, 140 on deck, has 27 feet Tjteadtb of beam, 11 feet depth of hold, and will register about 350 tons Her dead rise .at half floor is eitthi indies, and site has sufficient swell and sheer to impart an air of light ness to her general outline. All her .accommodations are on deck, and consists of u trunk cabin, a house lor the crew, galUy and some small store rooms, leaving the hold entirely ch'ar for crgo. Her ribs are of anrie iron 3x3 inches and of an inch thick, with reverse Ivirs of 2- and 510 of an inch thick, and are 21 inches apart The floors are 18 iuehes deep, the stem ai d stem ost are S"!id, and the plating varies from 5 IGths to of an inch in thickness, close I y riveted with Pembroke iron She lias seven cir cular tanks secim d on an iron plat form ud bra-e.i from the sides, and th'ise are count ettu with one an Other in such a manner t!i t they can be either united or disconnected at pleasure. Their combined capacity is 90,000 ga'lons. On the top of each there is a turret to allow for ex pansion, and, also over each there is a hatchway, so that they can be exam ined around, above and below at ail times. S!ic has a powerful steam pump by which to discharge, .and it is s'imuted that in six hours lur car go can be pumped our. At the place where she will discharge in Bston, a.here is a tank to receive her cargo The saving in cask-", cooperage and leakage will be very great; and in the course of a few voyages will make up the diff re nee in the expense of such a vessel compared with one of wood. Besides the tanks she had considerable space in the wings and in tho ends to stow away any outward caroo that may be required to bal last her, and even if the experiment g' carrying molasses sh-uid f::ii, still the 'auks can be taken out without difficulty, and -he will evtn then be Done the hss a servicable vessel. But we do not ta in w the experi ment Will fail, but on the contrary wi-l be entirely stices-ful, and that after she has nvuiu a few voyages o'liers w-.ll be. built hke her." She is brig ngeo, is a t-od looking ves sel and we have no d"ubi will prove a f-w.ft s d:er. Captain Havener, who is well acq tainted with the Cuba trade commands her, and she i owned by Nash,-SnHuhling- & Co. She tins been rightly named th Novelty, for she is the oyly vessel of the kind in the country. Trhe proposed pension to Mrs. Lincoln in Senator Morton's bill has many friends and ought to psss unatvniously and promptly. The relief comes a shape that should disarm objection. Granting that Mrs Linco'n has faults and foes (Hnd th first r as few as the lat;er are. foolish), did not her hu-band die for the Kfpnbhc? die afler a braver battle for the Riyht than any man of his time? and die words of peace on his bps and in his heart? Who ever" heard cf an opposition to giving a pension to the wido.v und children of a sohiier kiilea for the old flag And shall Mrs Lincoln be mnde all exception? We think not. Tittie has. moderate J many of ihe passion and prejudices aroused against Mr. --Lincoln, and honorable and generous men forget all sueh non sense and gladly, renienl er otily-'the virtues of her 'iudustrious husband, i Small ts Large Farms. "Robert BiikfcweJl, the celebrated KuIisb Fai mer, used to tell the following anec dote of a farmer in Leicestershire: "Hs farmer who owned and occu pied 1,000 acres of land, had three daughters. When his eldest daughter married, he gave her one quarter of his land for her portion, l.ut- no raon vy; and lu- found hy a IHtle more speed, and a little better management, the product of his faun did not de crease, lie then set to work and be ;run to grub up his furzf, and fern, and ploughed up bat he called bis poor dry furze, covering in some places nearly half of the land. After giving h.df his Lnd away to two of his daughters, tt his great surprise he found that the proluct increased; be mde more money, b-cane his new broken furze laud 'brought excessive crops, and at the sme time he farmed the whole of his land better for he em ployed more laborers upon it; he rose two hours sooner in the morn ing, had no ni'Te dead fallows once in tnree ears; instead of which, he got two green crops in one year, and ate them u ou the land. When the (bird ai;d last dunghtr married, be giive her 250 acres, one half ot what remained, for her portion, and no mon ey. He then found-that ha had the same money to farm one quarter of the laud that he had first to farm the whole." The Oregonian says : The value of the steam fire engines was well illustrated yesterday when there was occasion for filling a cistern remote from all others and too high to be filled by the hydrants. The engine longing to No. 4 was stationed at the c'slei n, corner of Jefferson and Seven; h streets. This latter cistern is about sixty feet above the one from which water was taken; and yet the etrjuie forced into it 20,0t)0 gallons of water in sixty minutes; with a head of only seventy pounds of steam. We call that pretty god work. .
