About eighteen luonlt's ago the
minds of Oregoniaris who have any

tracted to a rotary teara engine, in
vented by Salmon X; Brother of this

engine worked well, but before
Messrs. Salmon obtained their patent
the Scientific American of July 20th
1S6S, informed the world that a
Printer; iTes, ( a Printer! named
Turner, of the Grand Itipids Engle,
had obtained a patent, about thehj
for the same thiug. Without stop
ping to account for the phenomena,
Messrs. Salmon applied themselves
more vigorously to the work, and
now we are shown the result of their
labors in an Improved Rotary En

It Is a very simple machine. So
simple that any dne can be an engi
rieer wherever it is used. It will be
applicable to locomotives, or steam
boats, and we predict for it a leading
place in that catalogue. The model
is fiuished, and will go on to U asn
inrton Citv within a short time. We
should like td know how Turner &
Co., happened to get the very same
ideas concentrated in balmon 8 origi

"The Gang Plow made by J. C. Pfeil,
Arenzville, Cass county Illinois, is received
with no little favor in the west. Almost in
credible storied aro told ot its excellence
and etliciency in plowing the prairie holds
of Illinois and other States.
" The depth of the furrow is regulated by
the crauk-axle, which is so arranged that
the ploughs can bo driven deeper or shal
lower at the pleasure of the driver, when th
team is moving, by means of the lever.
We also manufacture sulkey plows for
small boys, or inhrm persons who are unable
to manage a team of three or four horses.
This gang or sulkey plow, will cut a fur
row from 2 to 10 inches deep.
-'.'T.hq committee who tested the draught
of ths plow with a dj-uauiometer state, that
it ran lighter by 110 pounds, than other plows
when running at the same depth, aud held
by the plowman while on foot."
With this Plow one man can do
more worlc than two men can do with
walking Plow's, and the same amount
of team. Hence, it will be seen that
it will more than pay for itself in one
season's ploicing.

CHANGE OF NAME !
MEUCADO & COSIPAXY,
Successors to
MERCADO & SEULLY,
Have been obliged, for their
own protection and the saftity
of the public, to Change the
uame of tbtir celebrated Bit
ters to
Mercadb's Native
California Wiitc Bitters.
3, We subjoin the following affidavit in an
injunction suit formerly penaing'between Mer
cado &. Seully plaintifis, and G. A. Simon, de
fendant, F. Sainsevaiu, be duly sworn. iys :
. "Thai th article known as Sainsetain'a
California Wine Bitter, teas manufactured
by Mdrcado - Svelly.- alxmt month vf March
1861. without the said Sainsevaiu Brothers
having any concern in the manufacture there
of That deponent hat olwayz known and
coniidered gait Jllercado 4' Seully as the eola
Proprietors of the Sainsetaine California
Wine Billet s."
Notwithstanding the above affidavit the
said F. Sainsevaine is putting up a compound
nnder the name of Sainsevain's Wine Bitters,
representing it to be the same as our celebrat
oil Hitters, which we have been manufactur
ing and selling in immense qnantities since
1860, and also affixing a neai ly similar label
to that Hi-ed on our genuine Wine Bitters!
lie not Deceived. Send for Mtrcado't
Native California Wine BiUcrs !
And you will obtain the same popular bever
age so favorably known since I860. Beware
of Counterfeits. Purchasers of our Wine Bit
ters are requested to observe the familiar old
yellow label, and see that the words Me-cado
& Seully, San Francisco, are engraved on the
Government stamp, pasted over the cork of
each bottle. This is the only effectual security
asrainst the eonnterfeit imitations.
