We ope our young friends will keep the ords m Go wj.Vlwsys ia view, -We are iu receipt of McCor mick's almanac for 1SG9 as usual it is filled with statistical information : The following relative to Clackamas county, we find in its pages: Clackamas county combines within its limits all the elements that when properly developed tend to make a country pros porous. Immense water power exists along it river bank ; the Oswego iron works with its unlimited supply of ore. skirt it on tlie north, whilst its agricultu ral lands are extensive as well as excel lent. Oregon City, the county peat was formerly the srat of the Territorial legis lature and is the oldest incorporated town in Oregon. All the merchandise and pro duce passing up and down the Willamette valley goes through Oregon City, and each year witnesses a marked improve ment in its prospects. At present Oregon City contains two grist, one saw, and one woolen mill ; 9 dry goods stores ; C family groceries : 3 hotels ; 2 livery stables, and a number of smaller dealers. , Two steam boat companies have steamers plying daily to Oregon City from Portland, and a company has been recently formed for the 7)"rpose of constructing a canal around the Wallamet Falls, (albeit of rocks across the Willamette river, forty-two feet perpendicular.) " on the opposite bank of the river. During the past year, Messrs. It. L. riltock & Co., have erected a Paper mill on the Clackamas river ii this county, adjacent to Oregon City, where every description of paper is being manufactured. The paper upon which this work is printed is from this establishment. . Pkaxo's CflROMos.-Eastman John son's famous picture of the ' Bare footed Boy," illustrating Whit tier's beautiful poem of the same name, commencing, ' Blessings on thee, little man, Barefoot boy with cheeks of tan." has been reproduced in chromo lithograph by Prang, of Boston, whose efforts to popularize are meet ing with such great success. Prang is the people's artist. To the tens of thousands of persons of taste in this country whose limited means do not allow them to purchase expensive oil paintings Mr. Prang furnishes in his chrorao copies of celebrated pictures almost exact facsimiles of the most valuable art gems, at a cost so insig nificant that a man with a moderate salary can afford to ornament his parlor quite as handsomely, at a comparatively small cost, as his rich neighbor can by spending- thousands. Among the many beautiful pictures already issued by Mr. Prang- we have seen none more attractive than those on exhibition at the art gallery of Messrs. Shanahan & Co., Portlaud. Under the provisions of the late act of the Oregon Legislature, rela tive to the Agricultural College, or Corvaliis University, one student from each Senatorial district was to be selected. lion. D. P. Thompson, Senator . from this county, is now prepared to hear from candidates for admission, and wjll make the selec tion accordingly. We shall give the act as it passed, next week, ' We hope that the M. E. Sab bath School exhibition, which is to take place on the evening of the 17 th in this city, will be well patronized. The proceeds will be appropriated for the benefit cf the society at large, not the school exclusively, as was erroneously stated lust week aud as would appear from an item on the fourth page to-day. On Monday last we had perpet ual sunshine. The day was cool, but really pleasant. On Tuesday the wind changed southerly, and in the evening we had a good shower of soft rain water. Wednesday was warm and genial, reminding one of Indian summer. Thursday and Friday were cloudy, with occasional showers. The dry grass of Summer is again fresh and succulent. The most artistic job ever issued from any printing office on this coast U that of the Portland Business In dex, printed by our young friend Thad. Welch. The vignette is ia at least five colors, worked upon one plate, with tints of his own contriv ance. The mounting, ruling, etc., upon this fine job, was done by Mr. C. D. Snyder, of the Pioneer Bind- pry. Messrs. Edmund Ross, aT.d S. W. Eddy, have purchased, the teams and truck?, wagons, etc., of the Oa- nemah Portage Company, and en tered upon a contract for the delivery of freight over the route for the op position steamers. They are enter prising men, and we hope may realize all their golden expectations. The annual proclamation of the original and genuine BanCA Clans, appears in our columns to day. It will be seen that his head quarters are The Frankliu Book Store at Portland. Orders for toys should be addressed to S. J. McCormiek. An article on the first page of to-days paper entitled Hooker was supposed to refer to Generai Joe, un til read. So much for accepting " prepared" copy.
